Delhi Police arrests 26/11 accused at IGI Airport

. .
Pakistan’s double-talk on fighting terror stands exposed with Saudi Arabia deporting 26/11 terror accused Syed Zabiuddin alias Abu Jundal.

A day after the news broke out that Jundal who was present in the Lashkar-e-Toiba-run Karachi-based control room to supervise and dictate through mobile phone the Mumbai terror strike in 2008, the Pakistani high commission here issued a statement that their government has “renewed its offer of cooperation in this domain”.

“As agreed at the highest level between Pakistan and India, terrorism is a common concern and counter-terrorism cooperation is in the mutual interest of both countries,” the statement, rarely issued at the time of a suspected terrorist arrest, by the high commission read.

This goes contrary to the dubious role Zardari government played while opposing for almost a year Jundal alias Zabiuddin Ansari’s deportation to New Delhi on the grounds that the suspected Lashkar terrorist was a Pakistani since he was travelling on a passport issued by them. Government sources said Jundal, a resident of Beed district in Maharashtra, was detained by Saudi authorities almost a year ago on an intelligence input country’s external spy agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) got. Armed with a dossier prepared by the RAW, the matter was taken up with the Saudi authorities in Riyadh who in turn sought the Pakistan government’s view as Jundal had become a Pakistani by then.
Jundal married a Pakistani woman in Muzaffarabad in 2009, another piece of evidence Islamabad used, during behind-the-scene hard diplomacy that followed for months, to impress that he was not an Indian but their citizen.

But, the UPA government decided to confront Pakistan with the DNA profiling of Jundal with the help of RAW and Intelligence Bureau (IB).
After taking DNA sample from him and his family, it was matched in a laboratory in the US with the help of the FBI which proved that Jundal was an Indian.

In between the cat fight to get Jundal, India also sought the help of the American government to influence Saudis to hand him over. It is learnt that the American government intervened and asked the Saudis to accede New Delhi’s request given the strong case against the suspected terrorist.
Finally, the Saudis decided to hand him over to India. A team of officials, including from the IB, went to get him to New Delhi and handed him over to the Delhi police’s special cell. New Delhi on Tuesday acknowledged the security and counter-terrorism cooperation Saudi Arabia had extended in Jundal’s episode. “Issues of this nature are rather new in the relationship between the two countries. I would like to share with you that our relationship with Saudi Arabia is expanding in a variety of ways,” official spokesperson and Joint Secretary (External Publicity), Syed Akbaruddin, told journalists.
Riyadh has been hesitant to step up its security or defence cooperation with New Delhi, primarily due to its close ties with Pakistan — the country that was blamed as the principal source of terror to India.

With Saudi help, India nails Pak lies

A very informative Article gives insight of things before arrest of Jundal , good sharing !!

Umm his parents are in India, so its obvious that the guy is Indian, doesn't matter if he had Pakistani passport or not.

If he is running around recruiting for terror while claiming to be a Pakistani, then it's certainly Pakistan's concern.

If it was a fake passport, Pakistani officials could have just said that, instead of allegedly blocking his deportation. Now don't tell me Pakistani authorities can't tell if one of their passports is fake or not

I don't know the procedure for declaring a passport as fake. In any case, as I mentioned, just the fact of him misusing a Pakistani passport to commit crimes is reason enough for Pakistan to punish him.

Same was initially expected from Pakistan, but you remember Hijack of Indian Airlines Flight 814 to Kandhar in 1999?? have you heard following names :-

- Maulana Masood Azhar (living in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan)
- Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh (who kidnapped and killed Daniel Pearl from Lahore, Pakistan)
- Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar (also living in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan)

Pakistani authorities has been in either ignorant or incompetent in past , so there is a big question for others to trust it again.

Case by case basis. Each situation has to be handled on its own merits.

Yeh sab Pakistan ke saath hi kyoon hota hai :) ?

India key tohfey humein nehein milein gein, to aur kis ko?

"Claiming to be a Pakistani" is obviously lesser of the two crime, the other one being responsible for the death of 150 innocent people and waging war against India.

Its like if someone kills a person and goes and hide in another country under a false name, what do you charge him for? Fraud or murder? Ridiculous argument!

I don't know the procedure for declaring a passport as fake. In any case, as I mentioned, just the fact of him misusing a Pakistani passport to commit crimes is reason enough for Pakistan to punish him.

Apparently the guy was arrested by the Saudi police for fraud. Since the guy had a Pakistani passport, Pakistani officals should have run a quick check on his passport and disowned him straight away, instead of trying to get him deported to Pakistan, to charge him for "claiming to be pakistani" according to you.

If Pakistanis did indeed try to block his deportation to India, then Pakistani establishment has dug itself deeper in this shyte. There is no weasling out of this one.

He is employed by no one, he has been voted in by the people, as whatever his other (giant) faults he has been good for the business people.....
And the Sikh slaughter was not committed by one person, it was civil unrest..............For example, did America apprehend and jail every person who had supported the confederate state of America , after the civil war??

FYI, Sikh Slaughter was due to khalistani radicals killing innocent indians while Gujrat slaughter was result of pre-planned burning of Godhra Train carrying Hindu Pilgrims.

and now Its funny to see Sponserers of Khalistan Terrorisms & Godhra Train Burning Massacres questioning Narendra Modi's egligibilty for being CM :enjoy:

By the way, Pakistan (ISI?) tried their best for over a month pleading with Saudi authorities to block his deportation to India! Why? Obviously he is a very important Yahoo because he could spill the beans and sing like a canary in India which would embarrass the Pak Establishment no end.

Pakistan may have succeeded in whisking him away had it not been for the pressure put on Saudi Arabia by the US of A.

See below.

So his "confessions" were obtained under Indian police interrogation? Like Kasab's? Interesting...

So, putting this logic together with the earlier quote above, Jundal's Indian nationality "proves" Indian state complicity?

So, it is accepted by Indians that the key role was played by an Indian national? Good to know!

Coercion? duress? plea bargain?

Evidence?

Indeed!

Which proves what exactly?

Israeli assassins traveled on fake British and (Dutch?) passports. Any two bit criminal can get a fake passport for the right price.

Assuming it's true, that's reasonable. Pakistan wanted to get its hands on the Indian operative before he got back to base and "confessed".

No proof. Just more allegations.

Or, Indian agencies are willing to sacrifice their own citizens to further their agenda. Since India refuses to let Pakistan interrogate the criminals, all we have is India's word for what happened.

Remember, even the US refused to extradite Headley to India, and we know that the US is far more likely to pander to India than to Pakistan these days.

Already addressed.

He will "reveal" what his script requires him to say. His Indian handlers will be happy to "refresh" his memory.

He said the world had appreciated the restraint and patience that India has shown in tracking down the attackers. “We have been tracking Jindal for a year. Jindal is a pseudonym. He was identified a year ago. We tracked down, found him and apprehended him. We are tracking all the 26 masterminds of the Mumbai attack. Pakistan comes out poorly, while this puts us in good light”, he said.
In reply to a question, Mr. Chidambaram maintained that the North East and Kashmir had witnessed significantly lower incidents of violence in recent months. It was only in the Central India states that violence was at an unacceptable level. Giving the figures, Mr. Chidambaram said 75 per cent of all violent incidents were in 26 districts that were affected by Left extremists. Of the 26, four were badly affected. One was in Maharashtra and three in Chhattisgarh.
When asked about Maoist presence in Kerala, Mr. Chidambaram said he did not perceive any significant presence of the Ultras in the State, though there has been greater concern about fundamentalist extremists.

While refraining from any ground actions outside Pakistan, the LeT appears to have resumed its recruitment, fund collection and motivational activities for nearly a year. This has become evident from reports regarding the activities of Zabiuddin Ansari aka Abu Jundal aka Abu Jindal akla Abu Hamza, a Muslim of Indian origin from Maharashtra, in Saudi Arabia.
The resumption of his activities from Saudi territory speak of the likelihood of plans for a fresh terrorist strike by the LeT. In view of the steep deterioration in Pakistan's relations with the US, pressures from Washington DC no longer have the desired effect on the ISI, which continues to help the LeT as well as the Afghan Taliban and the Haqqani Network despite repeated US admonitions to curb their activities.
The undoubted dilution of the US influence over the ISI and the relaxation of the curbs imposed by the ISI on the anti-India activities of the LeT, as evidenced from the resumption of the activities of Ansari in Saudi Arabia, indicate fresh dangers of the possibility of a major terrorist strike by the LeT against India with the blessings of the ISI.
The decision of the Saudi authorities to transfer Ansari to Indian custody unmindful of the unhappiness of Pakistan will be seen in Pakistan as a blow to its much-flaunted relationship with Saudi Arabia. Zardari is likely to be blamed by the army and the LeT for the failure to dissuade Saudi Arabia from transferring Ansari to Indian custody.
It will come as a surprise and shock to the fundamentalist organisations in Pakistan and Indian Muslim organisations such as the Students Islamic Movement of India and the Indian Mujahideen which had in the past maintained close interactions with sympathetic elements in Saudi Arabia.

The ISI and the LeT will be determined to demonstrate that the action of Saudi Arabia will not weaken their anti-India motivation by orchestrating a fresh terrorist strike against India.
Why LeT may be tempted to launch fresh attack on India - Rediff.com India News

The arrest of Abu Jundal/Abu Hamza/Zabiuddin Ansari, a 26/11 participant of Indian origin; from Saudi Arabia on July 21 and arrest of another suspect (Fasih Mohammed) earlier is a major event in war against terrorism in India. The wide publicity this has received will have a salutary impact on would be terrorists in India. Bangladesh had cracked down on terrorists and other Gulf countries were already shut to them. With Saudi Arabia joining in, Pakistan and Sri Lanka (to some extent) remain the only havens for anti-India activities. The problems of Indian intelligence agencies are thus reduced considerably.
Wars are NOT fought on evidence and in court rooms but for national political objectives and Pakistan remains firmly wedded to their aim of breakup of India. There is a Marathi proverb, 'you can wake up a person who is sleeping but not one who is pretending to be asleep'. No amount of evidence is going to convince Pakistan that is in denial mode.

Even at the domestic level the arrest, sadly, will have negligible impact. Already the media has begun the exercise to explain if not justify Ansari turning to terrorism. The perennial 'Gujarat riots' of 2002 is being invoked. Soon busybodies and NGOs flush with funds from Middle-East will begin a campaign to sow doubts about Ansari's identity, the evidence and his confession. But it must be accepted that many more will be reluctant to take up the cause of terrorists now that Saudi Arabia -- the keeper of Mecca and Holy Land for Muslims, has turned against Indian terrorists.

This could have been a golden opportunity to mount an ideological campaign against domestic roots of terrorism, but considerations of 'vote bank' politics make it very unlikely. 'Terrorist mastermind', 'dreaded terrorist' are creations of sensationalising media. Terrorism [ Images ] is a product of twisted ideology, vast pool of unemployed poor and constant motivation by 'secularists' to fan grievances, real or imaginary. The ruling combine needs to keep stoking the fear factor in minorities and then pose as a saviour to reap a harvest of votes at election time (which is most of the time in India).

India, US and Saudi Arabia: The 'new' great game! - Rediff.com India News

The rationale behind the Saudi change of heart!

In international relations things do not happen accidentally, there is always a larger design and picture behind these events. But even more important than this co-operation in nabbing a terrorist, this event underlines the growing close relations between India and Saudi Arabia. This is a direct result of India toeing the American line on Iran. The Saudis have made no secret of the fact that they see Iran and its nuclearisation as a direct threat. With India cutting down on oil imports from Iran and importing oil from Saudi Arabia, we have signaled our intentions. Handing over Indian terrorists sheltered in Saudi Arabia is their way to say thank you. Obviously this creates complications for Pakistan.

Saudi-Pakistan relations have been extremely close and most analysts accept that Pakistan nukes would be available to Saudi Arabia against Iran. That Saudi Arabia has chosen to annoy its principal hedge against Iran nukes is an event of very significant importance. Why has Saudi Arabia seemingly lost confidence in Pakistani nukes? Have Americans managed to neutralise them? Is this a prelude to de-fanging of Pak nuke teeth? All this is in nature of speculation but of great importance for India and its security planners.

By itself this coming close of India and Saudi Arabia and more importantly Saudi Arabia distancing itself from Pakistan terror project in India is an event of tectonic proportions. More so when seen in the light of some other events taking place in our neighbourhood. Sample this,

President Vladimir Putin is visiting Pakistan on September 26 this year. The first ever such visit by a Russia President. Last year Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari visited Russia, first such visit in 37 years.

China has moved its frontline Sukhoi aircraft to the Lhasa airfield.

The two events are in a sense linked to India and US getting closer. The moves by Russia, China and Saudi Arabia are a direct consequence of the Indo-US quasi alliance taking shape. It is worth speculating that the contours of this relationship were made explicit when Indian PM Manmohan Singh staked the survival of his government for the Indo-US nuclear deal in 2008. The understanding reached then has been further carried forward by the two countries and Russian and Chinese actions are a reaction to this major move by India.

The Indo-US partnership has made Pakistani position of seeking parity with India untenable. But unable to wean itself away from the addiction to American economic and military aid, Pakistan has limited options. One of them is to bring the pot on the boil in Kashmir.

In the coming months we must expect Pakistan-sponsored violence to increase in Kashmir. A major strike against the Amarnath yatra (the Hindu pilgrimage) in which lakhs of people gather presents one such opportunity. A major strike against the pilgrims can have a terrible echo in the rest of the country.
