An appreciable budget. But I wish we would go for F-18 fighter aircraft. Burma has already ordered 20 of MiG-29. But I'm happy with the Navy's prourement. At the same time procurement for the army remains unknown.

Raquib bro....

i have already posted this news in the other thread before....:)

Cheers!!!

. .
how much in $

At about $1 = Taka69.5, 12000 crore Taka defence budget is merely $1.72 billion. It is not that much, but note that BDR budget is not included in this figure because BDR is under the Home Ministry. I think there is some additional hidden budget for the defence forces of Bangladesh which is not published.

bangladesh's air force isn't enough to deter some countries with massive geographic advantage.

i believe that only a bangladesh with ballistic missiles can truly deter any misadventures.

I have heard that Sukhoi can fly more than 30,000ft above ground. Can a radar pinpoint it and can a ballistic missile truly destroy it?

.
I can not imagine the scenario: One day BD will buy some ballistic missiles and our neighbors will be worried and aware and critical.

Good advice to a country that spends more meaningfully towards defence..who r BD's enemies ? India , Burma ?

below_freezing told about Ballistic Missiles to maintain minimum deterrence, that will be not any high aspiration in future if time requires.

BD should either invest or purchase ballistic missiles.Although development is better if you want meaningful range because International Laws Prohibit the export of Ballistic Missiles greater in range than 300Km.

Ballistic missiles are cheap but practically their is no defence against them and they can prove very effective.Burma is nothing BD can even deter India provided you people have enough missiles.

I think 300-500km is enough to deter BD. But who will sell it or assist for it to BD?

Firstly the Su-30s have a service ceiling of over 56 000 feet.

And to shoot them down is the job of a SAM.

Ballistic missiles (BMs) are used to deliver warheads hundreds or thousands of kilometres away.

And before someone chews me out, yes, i used Wikipedia links, but just for the definitions and to get the service ceiling of Sukhois. In that regard, wiki is reliable.

BMs are mainly used as a delivery platform for WMDs. They are pretty inaccurate (can't hit as precisely as a cruise missile) and can't do major damage unless the warhead is a WMD.

So unless Bangladesh makes WMDs, BMs wont serve as much of a deterrent. They can be sued to attack enemy cities, but significant damage wont be done unless used in large numbers. And if used in large numbers, it can result in the enemy (assuming they have the capability) using WMDs. So overall, not a great idea.

Besides Bangladesh has never really looked to develop WMDs. They dont need it.

Why would you use ballistic missile to destroy a Fighter? Read ballistic missiles. SU 47 has explained it well though.

Yes, it was a stupid question that I asked. But, I wonder if a ballistic missile system without the capability of delivering nuclear warheads will work as a deterrent.
