Defence modernization funds cut by Rs 10,000 crore

Not gonna happen, read this shitty article again. 2billion USD will be cut and at the same time 2billion USD are assured to the IAF.

Even if GOI is providing an extra 2 Billion USD to IAF still its a cut.

First GOI assures IAF to go with MRCA by funding them extra and once armed forces decide to go beyond limit they denied the money from somewhere else. Extra 2 billion wont help since they will be consumed in MRCA itself.

It is just like armed forces says we have 10 Rs and we dont have money for MRCA and then GOI says ok we will give you another 2 and go for MRCA. So the need for armed forces was for Rs 12 (general acquisition + MRCA) but then government slashed the general acquisition by Rs 2 thus leaving Rs 10 with army. Remember Rs 10 was insufficient initially.

Any other source for this except ToI???

Lets wait for Mr. Anthony to speak.

The heavy investment in the Indian army leads to under investment in Indian Police force, fire services, social and infrastructural development. While the Indian army is getting top gears from the US and Israel like the Tavor etc, the Indian Police force is in a shameful condition. During the recent public manifestations prompted by the shameful Indian rape, we have seen Indian Police under-equipped with no anti-riot equipment, the Indian Police is still using rudimentary baton, Indian policemen still wearing the same unifoms as they were wearing 50 years ago, there was only an old single water cannon to disperse angry rioters, no tear gas equipment etc. Again, the railway infrastructure is still the same as it was during the British colonial rule. While all money is going to a virtual war with China, there is no money for more pressing and urgent issues and sectors.

10 million is 1 crore
INR 55 = 1 USD($)
thus INR 10,000 crore = 1.8 Billion USD($).
i welcome these moves and i am sure as soon as economy recovers we will see 30 % jump in defense budget

This is what I want to know, pls some one note($) when talking about Rs. 1.8billion$ is nothing

Almost 100% BS.

who told you that mate:what:!Indian Railways have advanced 100 times than what it was during the colonial times.better come here and see for yourself before talking cr*p:disagree:.well one thing that i would like to agree with you is the under investment in the police service.but we should not forget the fact that the police comes under the state jurisdiction and the entire police budget is included in the fiscal budget of a given state.the state govt. is responsible for the lack of modern weaponry in the police forces as it allocate a meagre amount each year to the state police forces.then again our police service is divided into two separate components, one is the civil police who take care of the normal law and order situations(these policemen are mostly armed with enfield .303 and SLR) and the other one is the armed police who are generally much better armed and trained than their civil counterparts(they are mostly armed with SLR,Insas,AK series rifles,LMGs etc).now when it comes to the Central Armed Police Forces(CAPF) they receive both superior arms(AK series,Insas,LMGs,MP-5,Micro Tavor,Berreta MX-4,Carl Gustav 84mm ATGL etc.) and training than the state police forces as these forces are maintained by the Central Govt. itself:coffee:.

as far as I know the real expenditure is not at all a correct digit, even in parliament. many things are kept confidential so I cannot believe in such news completely

Oh come on please dont confuse issues. Kashmiri invasion was launched by tribals from Pakistan, but Deccan was an invasion as it declared independence.
atleast hyderabadi's are happy today being a part of indian union than the attrocities of those nizam razakars

Forget it dude, dont even try to get into a discussion with him. If he has doubts about that, he should try walking around with a Pakistani flag in Hyderabad and see the reaction....

Perhaps this tiny cut in spending will lead to some common sense measures such as choosing the more affordable option instead of focusing on the "made India" vs foreign debate?

Tatra trucks can be replaced with Indian made trucks for half the cost.

HAL's overpriced basic trainer program can be scrapped and the focus can be put on Pilatus.

Perhaps DRDO's new multical bullpup can be chosen for F INSAS over the ARX 160.

Maybe HAL can scrap the LUH and just build more foreign choppers to lower costs and simplify maintenance and save years of waiting for HAL to get the thing flying.

This cut does not have to hurt performance at all. Common sense can be used to cut the waste (there is plenty).

Another easy fix would be to stop giving contracts to anyone without a tender based on the MMRCA model.

2 billion doller cut...... Most probably the armed vehicle purchase will get the axe.
rest of modernisation should continue uninterrupted :D

Dont take it as assured, still only TOI reporting this and no official statement by Antony

LOL this is just the beginnng. india has misspent and embezzled itself into an economic crisis. Partition is coming soon.

That's why india tried to attack Pakistan but was beaten badly again.
