What's new

Defence budget up by Rs 1.64 lakh crores

.
My two cents:

a.) Our defence budget always lapses with surplus funds that is we don't spend whole alloted funds for new aquisitions hence billions of dollars left unused.

We need to make our defence budget's capital aquition funds non lapse able.

b.) If we add inflation our budget hike is modest and as per GDP growth figures, in fact it have not increased in terms of % of Indian GDP.

c.) We need to increase our defense budget at least 5% of the GDP for next 5 years. With non lapsing funds.

d.) We need to have a dedicated funds for R&D activities.

. .
All the money not used in the defence budget is to make our babas rich as they get good APR % for having it sitting in the bank

I agree with this.

U might agree with this but Government of India Doesnot
As per Indian Laws defence Budget cannot be more than 3 % of GDP except at times of war
Generally defence budget hovers between 2.2-2.6% of GDP

At 36.5 Billion USD it stands at 2.5 % of GDP

If u take a look at Indian Laws also limit the number of weapons which Indian Arm Forces can have
For Instance IAF can have a Maximum of 39.5 Sqds or 780 Fighters
Navy can have a maximum of 138 warships and 24 Subs
Army can have a Maximum of 4000 MBT and 4700 Artillery Guns

What silly rules. They are trying to bureaucratize a country's defense?

I don't think there's any law limiting the number of weapons army or airforce can have, maybe that's the standard figure given
