What's new

Defence budget of India increases by 2.36 billion USD

Defence Capital budget(funds to purchase new weapons & equipment) has seen an increase of $1.2 billion.

The 12.7 Billion USD amount known as capital budget is for newer purchases , it is not spent on payment of deals which already are signed.Their allocation is separate.

For example , we have paid 15% of Rafale deal amount last year's as first advance payment and will pay 25% of deal this year as 2nd advance payment. This payment has its separate allocation and the capital budget or 12.7 Billion USD for this year won't be used for it.

@Sloth 22

Which part ?

The total Defence Budget [Excluding the Pension/OROP Fund ] = 40.5 Billion USD

Total Capital Expenditure Budget [Budget allocation for new deals ] = 12. 7 Billion USD.

This is much less than needed huge increase in capital outlay needed to fast track purchase of new naval helos , fighter jets , artillery and army equipments

12.7 Billion for new purchases? What exactly?

Peaceful Republic of India continues to have one of the lowest Defence to GDP ratio , at just 1.73 %.

Also the Defence to Total budget ratio is also one of the lowest at 12.7%.

This shows Republic of India's resolve to not to fall for the arms race by our belligerent neighbours.

Is the 12.7 billion exclusive of 40.5 billion budget??

We do not need to pay the entire sum in the first year. The advance payments is only 15% of the total amount.

Apache, S-400 etc covered under this is 12 billion or is this for new signings only ?

12.7 Billion USD is included in the total amount of 40.5 Billion USD.

If 100% of the capital budget is used , and on average 15% is the first advance payment , we can sign deals upto 75 billion USD in worth.

12.7 Billion for new purchases? What exactly?

Covers all the purchases , from fighter jets to S400, to Rifles to Radars.
