What's new

Defence allocation likely to go up by 20%

How is this budget going to allocated among the 3 diff forces???who would get the major chunk??

Revenue budget - biggest chunk to Army
Capital Budget - biggest chunk to Air force (due to rafale deal)

Where is the money going to come from?

from the big recent FDI that BD got..........

BD Money = Indian Money (but not vice-versa)

SIPRI will add it called "Stealth spending", so 36billion $~40billion $/1.9trillion $GDP equals 1.9% to 2.1%
Just as CHina is 113billion $(1.3%) in 2013 while SIPRI said 188billion $(2%)
SIPRI...simply because its is a independent watch dog that tracks defense expenditures across the world .

governments have a reasons to hide defense expenditures.
indian budget is a estimated expenditure..its not the true amount spend on the sector.... when the budget is declared , it means approx. xxxxxxx amount will be spend in the following sector...which may change in due course of time...because of certain timely requirements..... and about hidden costs....there can be very few in indian case....as india is a democracy with RTI... u can hardy hide such massive spending without govt. notice....

but what is included in defence and what is not? this defer from govt to govt, hence SIPRI normalizes defence spending of all govts so that defence expenditures can be compared. Ex indian nuclear assets is not included under defence spending and similarly spending on Border Security Force, the Central Reserve Police Force, the Assam Rifles, and the Indo-Tibetan Border is not part of government defence spending

SIPRI estimated $49 b at the beginning of 2013 and downgraded it to $47 b at end of 2013

of course ..its govt. decision what what to include in defense budget..... hence i think no other organization has any right to include other spending into defense sector.... the defence budget is for conventional forces in india...and hence nuke is not included..... and about para military forces..they are not responsible to defense ministry...though they are lead by indian army they report to home ministry and intelligence command....hence their spending is though respective wings....
as I have stated before, there are very few hidden cost in indian armed forces... SIPRI estimate can be whatever but I will trust govt. data anyday over other sources....

No You can not recover additional 40K cr from Middle class.
nope ..but u change the taxing system....so that more people are accountable for paying tax.... we di know in india not more than 5-6% people pay direct tax....

Actually defence spending should be compared to "nominal" GDP growth, which is the real GDP growth + inflation.

Since defence spending is not immune to inflation.

No point in secure borders if that bankrupts a country. Look what happened to Soviet Union.

India should stick to raising defence budget in line with GDP growth.
