Deal inked to take lease of Sudan farmland

Deal inked to take lease of Sudan farmland

Star Online Report
Bangladesh on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sudan to take lease of Sudanese farmland and grow crops aimed at ensuring food security of both the countries.

The MoU was signed between Bangladesh’s agriculture ministry and Sudan’s agriculture and forest ministry during visit of a Bangladesh delegation to the North African country, says a press statement.

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain led the delegation visiting Sudan from July 28 and is scheduled to return home on August 5.

I think it is North Sudan,to be exact.Once i read in a news paper that Ivory coast,Congo are also on the line.

In fact many don't know we already got our success this way. One took an initiative probably in Tanzania (forgot the country name) on an area of 1 lac hectares (or acres) land for agriculture purpose and it was successful.

There is no deal signed, this is just a MOU. But if a deal can be made it would be better in the long run. In fact there are other places in Africa where same option can be explored.

.
How much percentage of Land area is currently being used for agriculture in Bangladesh

Should be a beneficial move if it ever is implemented. We will be running out of land in the future.

Cheers!!!
