Deal in China rebel village Wukan welcomed

i do not know about this incident, but in my village there was a proposal to bring up a new SIPCOT unit to boost the price of land by the elected MLA's of my constituency who have lot of land procured in their name, my father and some of the villages senior members held a protest and the proposal is on hold after that.
The government can not be ignoranct of its elected members trying to convert farm lands into active real estate and some day bringing in corporate companies to buy and develop polluting industries near farming grounds.
We say that we are a agricultural country but the farmer is constantly riped of his source of income because of unbalanced privilages (high) to industries and (low) to agri.

Great work by your father and the villagers sir.
Lately, this problem has emerged around all metros and in Tier 2 cities.
The politicians acquire a lot of land and then try to raise the real estate prices.
Worst are those who try to grab land of the poor farmers by changing records. But the computerization of land records has tremendously reduced this.
Don't discount the farmers as innocent as well. One of my distant relative bought a land near city a few years ago. The farmer later sold the same piece of land to a builder. The issue went to court and finally he got his land back. Here the miscreant is the [so called innocent] farmer. There are many like him who think they can either get away with it or spend a few yrs in jail and enjoy the money later [as at least one guy who has paid looses his money here]

Also the issue of the land acquired for development of industries being diverted for constructing housing societies is increasing in Northern India. Case in point - the latest issue near Gurgaon.

I am not sure what to say with the incident that happend in your uncles case, but I am sure this guy who sold a land is no farmer, he is another real estate guy. A real farmer never sells his land despite numerous issues surrounding agri growth in our country.
Even incase of a poor income, a farmer will only turn to a new business that is related to agri ex - poultry, goat/sheap farming but sure will never sell farming lands.
Those of who, who have sold their lands no longer are intereted in the farming and have diverted themselfs to other professions or move to cities looking for other opertunities, so thier farming heritage gets cutoff.
In my case, My grand father was a fultime farmer, my dad on the other hand was the first graduate who went on to become a officer in the RPF, but he never lost the legacy of our ansytral job of farming, so he invested his entire PF in buying land and creating plantation, I am a software engineer, but I too have started investing in the agricultural lands and 5 to 10 years down the lane I'll be a full time farmer.
Note - Real Farmers never will loose faith in the job that ensures security of food for the entire nation. Real farmer never abandons farming.

Sir, regarding the land issue, all the farmers near big metros are selling their land piece by piece to enjoy "the good life".
There was a case near Nagpur [when i was studying there] where a poor farmer sold his land for about a crore and managed to spend it all in 2 years on all irrelevant things [including 52inch TVs and Sports bikes]. Now he has put up some tea stall.
There are many such cases near all the metros. I'm in Pune right now and have seen many farmers selling of their lands which are close to the city [especially near Navi Mumbai and Pune] and moving into the city. They also manage to spend half of it on booze, gold ornaments and fancy [i mean 15+ lakh] cars.

I too come from a family of farmers and are still engaged in it. I am an Electronics engineer and interested in Farming and Agro based industries more than pursuing a job. We have a lot of similarities here sir. We can never leave our farming roots it seems.
Currently i'm planning on setting up some small industry so that along with our regular farm income.
And good luck to you sir on your plans for the future and hope you would be able to achieve it at the earliest.
