NEW DELHI:

Just a day after Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj addressed the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as the guest of honour, calling out "states which shelter terrorists", India was strongly criticised in a resolution adopted by the influential grouping of 57 countries on Kashmir. In a sharply-worded statement on Saturday, the OIC hit out at what it called "intensified Indian barbarities since July 2016", "Indian terrorism" and "illegal detentions and disappearances" in Jammu and Kashmir.

In its first reaction to the resolution, India's Ministry of External Affairs said, "Our stand is consistent and well known. We reaffirm that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and is a matter strictly internal to India."

On Friday, Ms Swaraj had urged the OIC to "act together" to combat global terrorism amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan triggered by the Pulwama terror attack last month. Though she did not name Pakistan in her 17-minute address, she said, "If we want to save humanity, we must tell the states who provide shelter and funding to terrorists, to dismantle the infrastructure of the terrorist camps and stop providing funding shelter and funding to the terror organisations based in that country."

She also said terrorism, which was destabilising regions and putting the world at great peril, was not against any religion. "Terrorism and extremism bear different names and labels. It uses diverse causes. But in each case, it is driven by distortion of religion, and a misguided belief in its power to succeed. The fight against terrorism is not a confrontation against any religion," Ms Swaraj said.

On Saturday, the OIC adopted a resolution on Kashmir, attacking India for "indiscriminate use of force against innocent Kashmiris" and also praised Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for sending back Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman, who was captured after an aerial encounter on Wednesday.

In response, Pakistan's Foreign Office said that the OIC meeting of foreign ministers had concluded with a resolution that "supported" Pakistan on the Kashmir issue.

Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had skipped the meeting of foreign ministers because the OIC had invited Ms Swaraj to the event, sending junior officials to "represent the country's interests".

first time that India has been invited to an OIC meeting as guest of honour. Pakistan, a member of the OIC, tried to get Ms Swaraj ''disinvited'' from the Abu Dhabi meet following India's air strike on a terror camp in Pakistan but its request was turned down.

The indians made an appearance clearly on the say so of someone and that made this shoddy organisation very weak. some of its most influential members completely boycotted it and rightly so. I guess india was going to use this to unleash their tirade of verbal diarrhea against Pakistan but the rest of the members made it clear to india so she had to address the meeting without mentioning Pakistan, just a stale speech.

But after the performance by Pakistan everything has been rearranged behind the scenes. The very organisation just added insult to the injury.

Whats the use of statements, when you let them in as guest of honor at the cost of the country (Pakistan) you call brother and whose services you are looking for your defence
These Arabs are not to be trusted, actually no one is to trusted, just look for your own interests "ONLY"

This was done only to please Pakistan, and despite their screw up in inviting India, must still be appreciated by us. Daire aai par durust aai. Ab na bulana in kutto ko!
Oh they have to, they have deep security interests in Pakistan, especially the gulf countries. Turkey is the only one that was genuine in their criticism of india.

ISLAMABAD: The OIC Ministerial meeting that concluded on Saturday in Abu Dhabi reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Kashmiri people in their just cause.

In a resolution adopted by the 46th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), the OIC member states reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir remains the core dispute between Pakistan and India and its resolution is indispensable for the dream for peace in South Asia.

The OIC resolution also condemned in the strongest terms recent wave of Indian terrorism in Indian Occupied Kashmir and expressed deep concern over the atrocities and human rights violations in IoK.

The resolution also reminded the international community of its obligation to ensure implementation of UN Security Council resolutions on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

In the context of current volatile situation in the region, the OIC member states adopted a new resolution sponsored by Pakistan, which expressed grave concern over the Indian violation of Pakistani airspace; affirmed Pakistan's right to self-defence; and urged India to refrain from the threat or use of force.

This OIC resolution on regional peace and security in South Asia also welcomed Prime Minister Imran Khan's renewed offer of dialogue to India and the goodwill gesture of handing over the Indian pilot. The resolution called for restraint and de-escalation as well as the need to resolve outstanding issues through peaceful means.

In another significant development, the OIC elected Pakistan as a member of its Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission from the Asian region, in acknowledgement of Pakistan's constructive contribution to human rights discourse, norms and policies.

The OIC adopted two other resolutions sponsored by Pakistan on international disarmament and non-proliferation issues and reform of the UN Security Council.

The strong OIC support to the people of Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and the centrality of this core issue to regional peace is recognition of the key role that Pakistan plays as a founding OIC member.

The very same guest of Honor have been kicked by all and support Kashmiri's in front of them. This is very insulting to any guest for their crime. Finally OIC suddenly woke up and did right thing.

All words no action . kashmiriz are on their own to liberate the land. Atleast morally they support us.

I guess the events from being invited or rather a space provided to india from the west to enter this conference, to the tumbling affects of Pakistan's action seems to have changed alot of minds about india going to OIC. Just my theory.
