ISLAMABAD: Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Lt Gen (retired) Muzammil Hussain on Thursday said Dasu and Mohmand dams would be completed in 2024.

Talking to reporters outside the Supreme Court, he said he had sought guidance from the Attorney General on legal matters.

Hussain said in Thursday’s meeting he got legal advice on the ongoing projects of WAPDA.

The authority had resolved the issue of giving alternative land to affectees of Basha Dam as there was no alternative land in Gilgit-Baltistan, he added.

The chairman said locals of Gilgit-Baltistan had been paid against land acquired for the construction of Basha Dam, adding they were satisfied on receiving money against their land.

Hussain said the work was continuing round the clock at 21 power houses and employees were working in shifts to protect them from the coronavirus.

He said global institutions’ response for dam’s funding was not encouraging so WAPDA decided to build the dam with its own resources.

WAPDA had received 18 per cent funds for the dam from the government while the rest of funding would be arranged by itself, he added.

The WAPDA chairman said despite the virus pandemic, work on Pakistan’s hydropower projects was in progress.

He said in the last two years many energy projects had been completed successfully and 2,487 megawatts affordable electricity was being supplied to the national grid. Affordable hydropower would reduce the dependence on expensive IPPs, Hussain added.

He said the electricity generated from hydro projects would cost about Rs2 per unit as the power of IPPs was costing Rs18 per unit.

He said the construction work on Dasu and Mohmand Dams was in progress, adding work on Diamer Bhasha Dam would begin in the next few weeks.

“Bhasha Dam has a capacity of generating 4,500MW and its capacity to store water would be 8.1 million acre feet,” he added.

Hussain said the dam would prove to be a game changer for the Pakistan’s economy. The construction of the dam would end the exploitation of the nation by IPPs, he added.

He said earthquakes and environment in the country were being propagated against these projects and WAPDA with the help of local and foreign experts and engineers would resolve these issues soon.

He said the Supreme Court’s committee headed by former WAPDA chairman Shams Ul Mulk was overseeing these projects.

Attorney General for Pakistan Khalid Jawed Khan told reporters that briefing the apex court judges would lower the issues of public problems.

He said Chairperson Ehsaas Program Dr Sania Nishtar had assured that the aid would be databased and the individual would have to go through five different stages for his identification.

Khalid said the Tiger Force would only target people in villages and towns, who were without cell phone and internet facilities.

He said judges were rightly concerned about the closure of hospitals as patients with other diseases remained without treatment.

Khalid informed the court that out patients departments would be opened step-wise.

Pakistan should have focused on dam building starting in the 90's. Cheap clean power. Turkey did and look at its development today. Instead the PPP built oil fired generation. Cheap after the gulf war but prices would sky rocket 10 years later. Very short sited.

PMIK has had many external issues thrown at him but he has taken actions to strengthen the country in the long term.

Why are you leaving out the master plan of PPP "Rental Power Plants".

PPP literally Dry F’ed Pakistan for their kickbacks. Their properties should be confiscated and every member of their family should be put to hard labor.

Pakistan needs another term of IK for these projects to finish for good.

I am glad I donated multiple times for this great venture Allah donation ka ajer dega inshallah in afterlife

Also many other Pakistanis did same even greater spirit them me Love them all
Countries can’t build Multi billion dollar maga projects with donations. Govt need to open up dam investments schemes for middle class to invest their saving and get paid as return On investment and/or add surcharge in bills. Instead of paying foreign banks, pay your own people who invest money.

Bill surcharges will automatically end at the completion of project, and bill for consumers will also Substantially reduce.

PPP has a love affair with oil fired generation. I suspect they are being bribed by Karachi based oil industry moguls to advance this every time they are in power.

.
It's all about contributing at the right time you get a chance to donate for great cause if you take the chance then of course you have done well

Millions will drink water from project so quite happy with my contribution
Donated for afterlife .....

  • Every time I read about the Dam projects , I feel great amount of Joy :coffee:

The investors can of course invest in Gold, Oil and other stuff it's their own personal choice

There is saying that if you help bring water to anyone you get good rewards from your deed so the best way to make most positive gains even after you die is of course a Water or Dam project

:agree:

I remember people used to say oh this won't be made for 50 years
Now dam bhi ban raha hai , Dam(s) bhi bun rahe hain

Where are the analyst now ?
