Dar rails against IMF, threatens "alternative arrangements"

Fleeting good news

The operating paragraphs are:
The gap between Islamabad and the lender over fiscal slippages continues to widen as the Fund has strong reservations over the finance ministry’s revenue and expenditure — especially flood-related spending — estimates. Consequently, other multilateral and bilateral donors are reluctant to disburse the promised dollars.

We have tried to delude the IMF multiple times in the last three years. Each time it has responded with more painful conditions. Now, unless we implement the required governance and financial reforms, sustainable economic stability will remain a pipe dream.

Can someone elaborate on the highlighted parts? Is it just a lot of big words to describe corruption? That IMF funds are leaking away? I can't believe GOP is too stupid to maintain account books that are up to international standards. If Dar is willing to wreck the economy instead of providing an accounting that IMF can trust, something big must be wrong. I am wondering if a huge part of IMF loan is leaking away to military big bosses' foreign accounts and IMF wants no part of that.

First paragraph states that the IMF doesn’t trust the government of Pakistan in terms of accountability and transparency on how money is spent and where (corruption) and (kickbacks).

The second paragraph refers to Pakistani government attempting to pull the wool over the eyes of the IMF by trying to present lies as truth.

The last line simply is an ultimatum by the IMF “our way or the highway”.

I hope this makes sense.

So, the Government of Pakistan is willing to risk economic collapse instead of transparency in its money handling? That sounds like a terrible tradeoff at this moment in the nation's life. I don't think there is a precedent for this. I am not aware of any other country that fought so hard with IMF to preserve corruption.

Dar since joining brings stability in currency market specially against Dollar otherwise it could touch Rs 300/1$ as of now. This is his first short term achievement.

His Second achievement in these dire times towards Pakistani people is to stabalize fuel prices which he decreased 12 Rs towards 225 and held at their.

These two things brings much more stability in overall economic atmosphere despite Donkey Kings shenanigans against Pakistan economy and very much disappointment of this forum Imrandos packs.

To all Imrandos...Pakistan will not default nor ask force majour but pay every single 22 Billion dollars upto close of this financial year by the Grace of Almighty Inshallah.

May your pain develops into Piles.. Ameen!

The PM was involved in fleecing of funds setup for earthquake victims. There is a good chance his munshi will launder that money back to their bases in UK.

IMF is well advised to stop any arrangements to these crooks. Or else Pakistan would have to pay for their misdeeds plus interest later.

well at least he was experienced. But, there can be disagreement on his domain of experience, which to me tends to look a lot like "bankrupting countries".

Just like the "experienced" roadside mechanics that have thirty years experience of destroying whatever they work on? Sure. But it leaves behind only more problems and never solutions. Such experience can only be called a history.

He’s apparently the best Noonies have to offer.

Generally, what is claimed to be the best of Pakistan these days is only fit for a dumpster in most of the rest of the world these days.

I told you, bro. We have some members on this board lifting Dar's balls when they couldn't lift their own.

Most posters here have their own particular axe to grind, and saying the truth is not one of them.

Which is why the kahkis didnt let anyone contest in his senate seat for last 5 years, apparently they had grand plan back up to call him back to money launder their dirty dollars

Why do you think I always say Pakistan is what it is today by our own intention, design and hard work in making it so.

That's a very subject claim, any hard statistical data to back that up?
He fudged numbers in his previous tenure and Pakistan was fined by IMF for mis reporting facts you will need to do some googling to find it out, which is why there certainly is a trust deficit by IMF. Plenty of articles on Daronomics and its fallout to Pakistan. Plus also it is widely acknowledged that the series of events that led to Pakistan's grey listing in FATF were rooted from his tenure as finance minister and subsequent inaction made it worse.

While Mr Dar might be considered a financial wizard by his party but sadly till date his track record is short term benefits and creativity in moving money around.

Yes first para essentially stating that IMF wants to see and confirm that the government of Pakistan distributed the money for flood relief on flood relief. This is because most likely the money that was donated by international donors for flood relief was not actually used for flood relief. And why would they believe the PDM govt? With the track record that they have?
