What's new

Damaged IAF C-130J back in Hindon for repairs, will be fully operational soon

. . . . .
What I can assume is that that very field must have ILS installed on it so there is no issue while landing on centreline in any weather. Question is that is ILS still used even after landing till clearing off runway? Secondly normally there is no poles or any obstruction in the vicinity of the main runway so what did it actually hit? If it had hit something on taxi way then it can be understood but even if U have landed on centerline then how did it veer from it?

its a high altitude military airfield enroute siachen, I doubt they got any such equipment that you expect in big civilian airports.

Illuminati with their Bag of Knowledge....

Thoise is close to Glacier, landing a Bird in Rarefied Air is a Challenge only Master Green Pilots are allowed.
At times accidents do happen -- but the Best thing is No life was lost.

Good to hear Bird will be repaired...

So Where is the Fuss ??

Well the planners out there know what they need but in my humble view such runways should have ILS as the weather out there esp low visibility can cause quite an issue in take off and esp landing of different aircraft.

Confusion about centerline.

Actually centerline is made to be different than side lines as centerline is a non continous line with breaks in between while normally side lines are continuous ones as shown below.

The pilot is said to be a very senior and experienced pilot so we can assume that its highly unlikely that such a mistake could have been committed by likes of him.

The good thing is there is no loss of life and the aircraft has been partly damaged and could be repaired in no time to make it fully operational. For those wondering how the pilot crashed during taxiing, the airstrip is the highest in the world with the most hostile weather and landing such a big *** plane in such environment is no easy task and mistakes are bound to happen at times. IAF used these C-130Js to save hundreds of lives during times of crisis, both civilians and soldiers and also for transporting supplies to some of the world's highest and toughest battlefields.

Just have a look at this video on what it takes to land a C-130J in Ladakh
