Cultural history holds back Chinese research

Innovation is what Chinese are not. Chinese students in the United States and Canada plagiarize essays and spend entire afternoons doing practice questions.

It's ingrained in the Chinese education system to memorize your way to success and copy others when it doesn't work.

what a gross generalization.........

think about Taiwan's high tech industry for a sec.......HTC, acer, asus etc.......that's innovation and inventions

so if Taiwanese can do it so can people from mainland, we're basically the same people, so I don't understand why everyone can just say Chinese can only copy, plagiarize and can't invent or innovate, that's total BS ......

Also, China only develops for like 2 decades, so you can't really compare that to the developed world (Taiwan's developed a lot earlier than mainland)

Necessity is the mother of invention. That's why China has the world's only anti-ship ballistic missile.

The problem is particularly big in China, where Chinese youth are taught to not to think for themselves but only repeat what the communist party teaches them, because thinking for themselves will them in prison as political prisoners.

This is why there is nothing creative and original coming from China, due to the Chinese education system that stomps on the slightest flame of free-thinking at the earliest age. And with zero creativity, China cannnot climb up the value ladder and be stuck in 3rd world status forever.
Maybe you can work out some "creative" ways to duck North Korean artillery shells or getting your ships sunk.

If I'm not mistaken, there's only one Nobel science (chemistry) prize winner from Korea, same as Mexico.

Don't forget it's really isolationalism brought on by insolance, xenophobia, arrogance, egotism, that led to isolationism, believing you have nothing to learn from others, believe in racial superiority, out of control materialism and superficiality and then lack of competitiveness and productivity, not wanting to learn etc, it has little to do with confusionism which was a dead ideology during Mao's era to begin with. This same characteristic that is evident in some of these spoiled little emporor who has been spoonfed to believe in racial, regional, geographical superiority, these assholes are really not welcomed anywhere they go, and most of them have their education paid for by their parents from young till graduation. Just mixing and interacting with a few of these jerks are bad enough to make your good day turn negative.

Your anti-ship ballistic missile never have a real test to show to the world, so, Shaddock(can mount with nuclear warhead) that Russia and VN have still be the world's only anti-ship ballistic missile
The P-6 [SS-N-3a Shaddock] is a more accurate cruise missile later developed for targeting US Aircraft carriers. This radar-homing missile is launched from Echo II and Juliett submarines and flies to a maximum range of 220 nm at a cruise speed of Mach 1.2. A 2200-lb conventional or nuclear warhead is estimated for the SS-N-3a. In its antiship version, the Echo depended on prior cueing by a radar-equipped maritime patrol aircraft and terminal homing by a radar seeker on the SS-N-3 itself. The high altitude, relatively slow SS-N-3 was vulnerable to air defenses in flight, and its radar seeker was vulnerable to jamming and deception measures
SS-N-3 / SSC-1a Shaddock - Russian / Soviet Nuclear Forces

It's not confucianism that leads to the above, but rather believing that your system is the best in the world and that there is no need to improve on. This can happen to any major powers that allows hubris to set in.

There are ZERO Korean Nobel Laureates in the physical sciences.

Charles J. Pedersen is a Norwegian born in Japan with the Japanese name Yoshio. He has nothing to do with Korea.
So he's culturally Japanese, NOT Korean.

At least China had an INDIGENOUS democratic revolution in 1911 (with some localized success: Taiwan); whereas Korea & Japan NEVER even TRIED on their own, their "democratic" governments were implanted by the US. Their "natural" governments had always been more oppressive & rigidly hierarchical than China's INDIGENOUS PRC. Freedom & individuality is the LAST thing Japanese Koreans have in their minds. If left on their own devise, the "natural" government of Korea would be that of DPRK (North Korea). Japanese & Korean Confucianism is to classic Confucianism as Wahabbism is to classic Islam.

"democratic" Japan was a 1 party state for 60 years run like a hereditary shogun's fief.

South Korea was a military dictatorship run by former Japanese generals until 1992.

The point is, that Japanese & South Koreans like to mock Chinese for their "lack of freedom", when in fact their cultures are far more oppressive than China's, and they somehow managed to run their IMPORTED democracy as fascist oligarchies.

well that makes sense that South Korean residents are the biggest foreign residents in China, they have over one million and more coming, i dont know how many koreans legally or illegally in U.S and West.?

the fact is that some western countries use democracy as a mean to interfere into other countries intentionally, particularly countries they dont like.
the chinese people realize the purpose behind western-style-democracy advocacy, they need democracy with chinese characteristic.
in term of research, there is nothing to do with chinese democracy. that is how the aspersion of the west is. it is the matter of time, chinese scientific activities started up much later than the west and japan. and more than that, the west is trying to impede chinese from scientific research, joining ISS is a good example. the west even links chinese research with military activies while they do the same much more than what china does.
in comparison with Korea and Japan, people may think korean and japan have more advanced research, but the behind is the coorporation with the US institutes. china research is not able to do that. the Noble committee is bias also toward the west. it is not worth to trust their ranking also.
