The Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) on Tuesday crossed another milestone in its history by delivering the 100th vessel built at the yard. The ship is the the fourth in a series of 20 Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) being built for the Indian Coast Guard.

The protocol documents for the vessel (BY 504) were signed by Ravi Kumar Roddam, Director (Finance), for CSL and Commandant Designate of BY 504 Cmdt Ashok Kumar of Indian Coast Guard. Vinayakumar P, Director (Technical) CSL, DIG Vivek Vajpayee, Principal Director (Materials), Indian Coast Guard, and DIG T P Sadanandan, CGRPS, Kochi, were present on the occasion. The vessel is named ‘Abhiraj’ and will be operated by the Coast Guard station at Tuticorin.

The Cochin Shipyard had signed the contract for the construction of 20 FPVs for the Coast Guard in October 2010. CSL has earlier delivered three vessels - ICGS ‘Abheek’, ICGS ‘Aadesh’ and ICGS ‘Abhinav’.

The first vessel was commissioned on December 13, 2013, the second on December 31, 2013 and the third on January 15, 2014. ‘Abhiraj’ can move at a speed of 33 knots.
