Hey let me clear this up, this was a screwball decision of the maldivian government and do not start with the generalizing about islamic faith and sharia blah blah blah. No body is condoning these acts but rather should condemn this justice and the victim should recieve therapy and while I do not consider capital punishment appropriate, this might be one of those times where the criminal should recieve a sentence for the heinous act, he has committed which is saddening to say the least.

Also the maldivian government or the people should consider fixing their criminal code but heck, its their countrie if they want to live 2000BC, be my guest

Throw some light over the logic of not making pre-marital sex a criminal offence and rapes.Last time i heard pre-marital sex meant consensual and Rape meant forced sex.

And not reporting rapes does not mean that they don't occur.If the women requires four witness to prove that rape has occurred and inability to prove so is death by stoning,is it difficult to imagine that there would be under-reporting in countries who have such laws.

This part of my post was regarding the logic of your assertion that pre-martial sex not being a statutory crime leads to rape.

I was assuming that since according to you women are getting raped en-mass in india and en-mass being a comparative word,you would be comparing it to jordan or some other fellow islamic society.

She didn't have to admit this, she can just STFU about having sex. If Muslim countries allow pre-marital sex then their countries would turn into Indias where women get raped in masses.

Sharia law impose strict conditions in applying adultury punishment which is impossible to prove unless:

1- The man and woman who committed adultery have not to be married.

2- There must be at least four witnesses who are sane, rational, impartial, adult, men who saw the adulterers committing adultery with their own eyes and must see it in complete,

3- The adulterers have to admit of committing it.

That shows, that it's impossible to prove adultery unless the adulterers themselves commit it in public and admit it. So, here they are not just committing a great sin but also calling for it, the point of punishment is to limit committing such things, or otherwise people would rape and have sex in streets. But those who commit it, they just get a room and STUP and no one would bother them not even in case three men saw the.

Most muslim countries have a rape rate higher than India. Your own country has a rape rate of 2.0 compared to 1.8 in India.

Also , since your country follows such a primitive system , being governed by a monarch, I can bet the rape rate is much higher in your country than reported. Hardly any Muslim girl will report a rape precisely due to cases like what happened here in Maldives. Plus , she would be ostracized from society. Just because rapes are not reported in your country doesn't mean they don't happen. Even with the rapes that are reported , your tiny kingdom ranks worse than India.

That is crazy. If she was raped then she clearly didn't have pre-marital sex on purpose.

Where is the logic?

Two different crimes under Shariah Law !

(a) Raped by her step-father.

(b) Having consensual sex outside of marriage with another man.

The first makes her the victim of rape under the Shariah & consequently she needs to be treated as such with proper rehabilitation & with the step-father being sentenced to death !
The second makes accuses her of transgressing the limits that Muslim Societies impose on individuals & the Standards of Propriety it has decided for themselves. Now I dunno how that pans out when you've got such a situation but it does appear that shes being disproportionately punished even under the Shariah Law & the step father being disproportionately left off the hook.
