CPEC's Alternative For China

As Pakistanis are keeping all their hopes up for CPEC, there is an alternative route China have been proposing. This route involves India, Bangladesh and Myanmar. China recently announced an investment of 24B$ in Bangladesh which will be invested on Port, roads and railway links. China have also been in talk with India to join the route for trade activities but India is reluctant to join the Idea of old enemy. This will undermine the growing economy of India. This route could pass through Bhutan, Assam and end on Bangladesh's port. Even if India don't join China can still link its self through Myanmar. Where China have already built a high way till its border with Myanmar. This route is nearest to Beijing to enter the Indian ocean and can provide a alternative for trade in case Pakistan become unstable and there is a blockade on sea route.
So what Pakistanis have to do is not to put all eggs in one basket. They should work hard on this project but not totally keep all their hopes up on this. Pakistan should also start their efforts to link it self to Russia and Europe through the route of Iran and Azerbaijan. This route can also link Gawadar to Pakistan ally Turkey. One thing Pakistanis should know that CPEC was meant for the development of Xingiang and alternative route for worst case scenario for china. It was never meant to replace the sea route.
Hope Pakistanis will make wise decision in their policies.

Bashing starts In three two one!!
OT: If you look at the map India Bangladesh route or through Myanmar is much more shorter than cpec and much closer to China's east .. Tough Himalayan terrain can be a problem though

China is pretty much a big country..The Eastern part of China is developed and the Western zone is less developed which will be connected to Pakistan through CPEC..Now it depends of Pakistan and China to how both nations complement each other in development of Western part of China with Pakistan as a nation.

China also exploring another option to connect to the port through Tibet,Nepal/Bhutan through any of the East Indian port.

The idea of China using the route through Nathula to the port in Bangladesh and rest of India is not new, and has been proposed way back in 2002-03.

China's OBOR has many routes and many directions...only the grand central remains in the centre...the Middle Kingdom...

Chinese's development paradigm is about shared prosperity and co-development.. China WILL integerate all of South and South West Asia into the Grand Central. Let there be no doubt about it.

CPEC covers South West Asia, ME and beyond...covering Afro-Asian Ocean nations.

China is investing heavily in BD and SL already...so the routes will happen.

A prosperous South and South West Asia is in China's strategic interests.

As China does not engage in Zero-sum games...this alternative route theory is just intended by the OP to create malice and divisions among brothers...

China is investing heavily in BD and SL already...so the routes will happen.

A prosperous South and South West Asia is in China's strategic interests.

Post is not meant to be hateful but its about giving a picture to Pakistanis who posted the result of this project e.g 200% growth after its completion. Which is totally different from reality. From Pakistanis perspective we need to set a reasonable goal n return from this project. By that I mean people are thinking whole chinas trade will be done from this route which is far from reality. Yes it will put a great impact on economy of Pakistan but setting our goal by thought of replacing sea route trade is not a good idea. Which is the case right now with Pakistanis.

There is no free lunch & money doesn't fall from trees.

Putting in the infrastructure (railways, roads/expressways, power plants, ports, bridges, sewerage, water, etc) is the pre-requisite.

People will still have to work hard to capitalize on the infrastructure. Just that the infrastructure logistics will help with the provision of services and in the manufacture of products. This will lead to economic development and improving the life of the people.

You may have a spanking new car but you still need to drive it to make use of its utility. Otherwise it will go to waste.

Please dont get confused about the real and genuine INTEREST of the Chinese, to have access to the warm waters of the Arabian sea through the Gadwar port, thus the need for CEPC its 100% genuine, while the intended port for Bangladesh is to by pass the narrow straits of MALACCA.

TWO SEPARATE issues, altogether. An ACCESS TO THE West via PAKISTAN and the East, THROUGH BANGLADESH OR MYANMAR. FAMOUSLY TERMED AS "THE STRING OF PEARL"and STRONGLY OPPOSED BY THE Indians, U.S.A, JAPAN AND THE WEST.

One of the main reasons for the sudden U.S +INDIAN STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP,TO STOP THE FURTHER RISE OF CHINA AND TO BE ABLE TO CONTAIN THEM IN THEIR MAINLAND,

THUS COMES THE NEW CHALLENGE TO THE SOLE SUPERPOWER AND THEIR DREAMS OF CREATING A NEW WORLD ORDER.

What is meant by a strategic partnership between Bangladesh and China?
Bangladesh and China have elevated their relations to a “strategic partnership for cooperation” from closer comprehensive partnership during the official talks between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President Xi Jinping in Dhaka.

After the meeting on Friday, Xi said they would increase high level of exchanges and strategic communication under the new partnership so that the bilateral relations “continue to move ahead at higher level”.

What does strategic partnership mean? How is it different from normal relations?

Strategic partnerships are commonly linked with defence or security-related issues. But diplomats say it also covers a wide range of bilateral issues from education to health, and economic relations including trade and investment.

Bangladesh is yet to define officially the objective of its new partnership with China. But it is being closely observed by many countries including India with whom Bangladesh does not have any such formal strategic partnership.

Former Bangladesh ambassador in China Ashfaqur Rahman views this strategic partnership with China from an economic perspective.

“It’s a cooperation strategy. It’s not military. I think it’s purely economic strategy since China is planning huge investments in Bangladesh. I welcome this move,”This cooperation partnership will allow both countries to pick the right sector of investments,” he said. “It can be problematic if it is military-related.”

“With this new partnership I think we’ll look at issues from a longer perspective of relations where both parties will cooperate and collaborate with each other and both will work together and benefit from each other, those long term interests “could be economic relations, connectivity or those could also be defence collaboration”.

“This is a new level of relations for Bangladesh, I would say and it comes out of a focus on strengthening economic relations.”

“China is ready to invest in a big way. We need investment in a big way. So we have convergence in our needs.

“Bangladesh needs support in energy and investment. China can help in that. We are working for each other’s economic development.”

But, Kabir noted that there should be “transparency, accountability and involvement of people” in all the process of strategic partnership. “Only then can the relations be sustainable, productive and beneficial in the long term.”

The Chinese president, in his statement, said Beijing would “continue to do its best” to provide capital, technological and human resources support and carry out “more cooperation” on big projects with Bangladesh to support its economical and social development.

Later, in a joint statement, both Bangladesh and China said they would work together for the common development and prosperity which are conducive to the improvement of the welfare of the two peoples.

They will also promote the development of the region and the self-relied growth of developing countries.

“Based on the common aspiration for and the bright future of the cooperation between the two countries, both sides agreed to elevate the bilateral relations to the Strategic Partnership of Cooperation,” read the joint statement.

The two sides reiterated their adherence to the important principles for developing China-Bangladesh relations on the basis of the “Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, respecting and supporting each other in choosing the paths of development according to the national conditions, and respecting and supporting each other’s core interest and major concerns.”

There is no comparision to CPEC. CPEC will be shortest way for linking Middle East with Western China which is not as developed as Eastern China. Not to mention CPEC route will avoid Chinese supplies from passing closer to Indian sea routes as well as Straits of Malacca, hence providing a relatively safer route. Another thing to note is that this route will be most economical.

This is not an alternative for CPEC. The basic purpose of it is to cut the middleman from Oil and China.
If you calculate you will find Myanmar route is more economical for China as 90% China population is in east. Only thing thing which is relevant with CPEC would be Iran gas pipeline. Rest the oil route is better suited from Myanmar as oil pipeline can also travel from Myanmar port to China.
