This is just an attempt to deflect from the revelations that have been made about his wife's assets and business investments in the recent past. In truth, the journalist Ahmed Noorani has nowhere claimed corruption, he's presented publicly available documents which show his wife to be a shareholder of a large business empire in the US, and that he and his sons created businesses in Pakistan that coincided with his promotions and appointments in the army.
If there is corruption there, or if there needs to be an investigation, that is for the courts, FBR, SECP, army itself etc to take notice and inquire, it's not the responsibility of Ahmed Noorani to prove guilt and it (ideally) it should not be incumbent upon Asim Bajwa to disprove a negative with no evidence of wrong-doing, but with the "accountability" environment created where judges, politician and media persons are demanded to produce the money trail at the slightest accusation, perhaps because of this he has to answer. And keeping him on while this subject remains grey is politically damaging for IK, it shows that he's utterly subservient to his masters in the GHQ, now he can't even save his political capital from their bidding. If it were truly IK's choice, he would have never appointed Asim Bajwa in the CPEC authority or as SAPM, and if it was his choice, he'd probably sack him from both right now. But he has no choice, he has the army to answer to.
Also this situation is bad for CPEC, we have turned it into a political football, meanwhile Generals have forced the government to hand over a lot of power to the CPEC authority which they want to retain control over. CPEC authority has become an unaccountable institution with draconian powers, and now the head of CPEC authority is a guy against whom there are allegations of corruption and wealth beyond means, and as long as CPEC authority ordinance remains in place, and Asim Bajwa remains there, he will have immunity even if corruption is proven. Just imagine what the Chinese government and investors must think of this mess.
