Cow slaughter to be punishable by life sentence in Indian state

There must be respect for the traditions of every religion. Beef must be absolutely banned in Bharat. Bharat is a Hindu majority country. The Muslims of Bharat must also avoid doing what is causing any offense against the traditions of the majority religion.

NO. India is more than reverent cow belt. India is not your Gau bhakt northern India. India is not the India where you count forward caste Hindus as the only citizen. India is not the India where the ancient terrorists golwalkar and savarkar are credited as Deshbhakts. RSS is Terror. Banning RSS is the path. Jailing supporters too. Yes, I eat cow meat, so does millions of Indians who don't have the reverent cow disease. Accept your folly, India is not a unitary nation. It is a diverse country with different culture and different nations stitched into one. Don't play the RSS swine sevak agendas. It will be disaster in the long run.
I agree and adding to that.. not just RSS, any and every radical religious organisation. this country can only move out of 4th world status when it undoes the stupid shackles of religion.

Gujarat greenlights life sentences for cow slaughter

Cow slaughter is a hot-button issue in India, where even rumours of cows being transported can spark murderous reprisals and religious riots
India Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat on Friday increased the punishment for cow slaughter from seven years to life imprisonment as Hindu hardliners push for tougher protections for the holy animal.

Under the stiffened penalties passed by Gujarat’s state assembly, anyone caught transporting cows for slaughter could also face up to 10 years in jail.

Cows are considered sacred in Hindu-majority India, and their slaughter is illegal in most states.

“A cow is not an animal. It is symbol of universal life,” Gujarat law minister Pradipsinh Jadeja told the state’s assembly. “Anybody who does not spare the cow, the government will not spare him.”

The amendment still needs the approval of the state governor, a formality all but assured, before becoming law.

Millions from India’s huge minority populations, including Muslims, Christians and lower-caste Hindus, eat beef, although it is not widely available.

But Modi’s ruling right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party, which recently won India’s largest state Uttar Pradesh in a landslide, has long campaigned for the protection of cows.

The BJP’s new chief minister in Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has launched a crackdown on abattoirs since taking office in March that has ground the state’s meat industry to a halt.

Hindu activists have long accused the Muslim-dominated meat industry of covering up the slaughter of cows and passing off the meat as buffalo, which are not revered as holy.

Cow slaughter is a hot-button issue in India, where even rumours of cows being transported can spark murderous reprisals and religious riots.

Squads of “cow protection” vigilantes are known to roam highways inspecting livestock trucks for any trace of the animal.

In 2015 a 50-year-old Muslim man accused of eating beef was dragged from his home in 2015 and beaten to death by a mob. Police later said it was mutton.

The cow is considered sacred by India's Hindu majority
The western Indian state of Gujarat has passed a law making the slaughter of cows punishable with life imprisonment.

Under an amendment to the state's Animal Preservation Act, those found guilty of transporting beef will also be jailed for 10 years.

The cow is considered sacred by India's Hindu majority, and killing cows is illegal in many states.

But the new amendment means Gujarat now has the toughest laws on the issue in the country.

Offenders will face heavy fines, as well as time behind bars. The penalty for either act has been doubled from 50,000 rupees ($771; £618) to 100,000 rupees.

Gujarat Minister of State Pradipsinh Jadeja told reporters that the cow was a symbol of Indian culture and the amendments to the act had been made "in consultation with the people".

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has also spoken repeatedly of "harsh" punishment for those who kill cows.

The new laws will come into effect from Saturday.

The amendments to the 2011 law include a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh and permanent confiscation of the vehicle used for transportation(HT file photo)

“During this auspicious occasion of Chhetri Navratri, the government, on suggestions of several sadhu-sants, has made amendments to the Gujarat Animal Protection (Amendment) Act, 2011. This is the harshest law in the country,” said minister of state for home Pradeepsinh Jadeja.

As the move comes months before the assembly election scheduled for November-December, opposition Congress termed it politically motivated.

“This is not out of concern for cows. The BJP has passed this bill to get votes. Through this bill, it has been proved that BJP is anti-Dalit,” said Congress MLA Shaktisinh Gohi, referring to the flogging of Dalits by self-proclaimed cow vigilantes in Una last year.

Buoyed by the BJP’s landslide victory in Uttar Pradesh, the party believes that enacting a stricter cow protection law will help consolidate votes in the elections to be held in the backdrop of Patidar agitations for reservation in government jobs and colleges.

“We had fought a case in the Supreme Court to bring a law in Gujarat to save cows. Now, we want to make this law stricter. We will introduce a bill in the ongoing budget session of the assembly,” Rupani had said on March 12 in Junagadh at a function organised by Swaminarayan Sect. A significant number of Patidars, or Patels – a crucial vote bank of the BJP – are followers of this religious sect.

On March 15, Rupani again raised the issue. Speaking at a Tribal Fair in Chhota Udepur, he said, “The BJP is committed to protect Gau, Ganga and Gita (Bhagvad Gita). And, for the same we are bringing a stricter cow protection law.”

In 2011, when Narendra Modi was chief minister, the state government had imposed a complete ban on slaughtering and transportation of cow and progeny by amending the Gujarat Animal Preservation Act, 1954.

Under the act, offenders faced imprisonment up to seven years and fine up to Rs 50,000. Besides, police could seize the vehicle used for transportation for six months.

In the past six years, even though 1,000 cases were registered every year, a long-drawn legal process and provision for bail had reduced the law to a mere lip service as not a single case had seen conviction so far.

There must be something with the "cow"!!!! After crossing the Red Sea to save themselves form the clutches of Firaun, who got perished while on chase, the first thing Beni Israil folks demanded was to worship the cow!!! While Hazret-i Musa (PBUH) went to the mountains to receive Torah, Beni Israel folks not only got engaged in worshipping a cow but also made a mini "Las Vegas" within a span of only 40 days!!! Needless to say, upon his return, Hazret-i Musa (PBUH) beat the hell out of them for all the transgressions!!! No wonder the largest Sura in the Kuran-i Kerim is named "cow". And, Beni Israil lost the favor of their Lord for getting into arguments to find the "perfect cow"!!!! And, the best director of RAW was "Kao"!!!!!

Ah my Friend,

Wish you could also put in some English translations of your lingua-franca... however, got the gist of it.

Kao...that policeman..yes, yes, we knows...

Moving on to more material realm... don't you find this fasicnating study in deconstructionism... Fascism always goes through these cycles...

Invention of Mythology/Superiority of Past

Designed/Imagined Victimhood

Designation of the Oppressor

Emergance of Saviour/Promise of Attainment of Power and Glory

Deconstruction of the Existing with mass violence

How long do you think that indiaans would reach the last state and great violence will ensue?

This is becoming day-to-day Dialectic Acceleration here.... just amazing study. Never thought that the cycle would come in with such precision

@Kaptaan your ganga civilisation is accelerating towards the obvious climax... time to develop a Framework!!!
