Cow slaughter to be punishable by life sentence in Indian state

Try Cow meat Nihari and Biryani you would fall in love with that dishes.

Dont eat beef, but all white friends who eat beef, all tell me they prefer lamb over beef.

But lamb is more expensive meat so guess beef is more popular?, how do both compare?

For instance there are Thieves who steal Small calves at Night and Run away
Slaughter them and beef is cooked

Such people dont deserve any mercy
So the punishment is for the calves theft not for cow slaughter?
Is this what you are saying??
Yeah they should not be shown any mercy!!

Well the beef tastes richer compared to lamb meat. Lamb have more tender meat. It all depends on taste as you rightly said. For some, FISH is the end of the world, there are people who like vegetarian, people who wont consider it a meal unless there is Chicken in it, people who will die for a good steak or Bacon! It is all about personal taste.

Yeah they should not be shown any mercy!!

The Thieves who steal calves do it only for slaughtering them and
consuming them immediately

Some times it also causes Riots in villages

It is all about personal taste.

Exactly ; I order both Veg and Non Veg dishes together
And always I find the Veg dishes tastier

The Human ability to distinguish between and appreciate different flavours varies a lot

Yeah but the punishment here mentioned on this thread is NOT FOR THEFT sir, it is for slaughter. Talking about people stealing calves is a bit misleading. :)
I mean, it was not about theft anyway, it never was.

Yup. It is a personal choice really. Like i like Bhendi (ladyfinger) more than Jalfarezi!
That do not means that i do appreciate a well done beef steak or Chapli kabab or seekh kabab or nihari!! They are on top of the list for sure.
To me it is a personal choice and depends on personal taste.

The Thieves dont intend to rear the calves ; they slaughter them immediately

yup!!
But the punishment declared here is NOT for the theft, but the slaughter!!
Meaning is they keep the calves alive and just steal them they wont be punished under this law!! On other hand, if they buy it and then slaughter it, they can be punished under THIS law. This is the point. Bring in theft in this thread is just creating a misdirection.

The thread is "COW SLAUGHTER TO BE PUNISHABLE BY LIFE SENTENCE" and not "COW THEFT . . . . . . . "

Indian here, neither left nor right, I find this Rule stupid, just like any blasphemy rules in any country.
The only reason they have to ban or make cow slaughter an offence is if they ban the slaughter of all animals. Otherwise, this is against the draft of the constitution. Personally, i love my steak medium well and I am a Hindu.

Maharashtra, South India are the only tolerant places left in India. Like Wahabbi Islam, RSS Hinduism has replaced North India. RSS Hindu is no different than an ISIS supporter. #RSSisISIS
Only South India, not Maharastra. It is the playing ground of Shiv Sena.

Every region has its sensititivities one can see that in jalikattu protests in southern India and against cow slaughter in northern-western India.Besides congress has Also put anti cow slaughter laws in various states.

Our country ;our rules
NO. India is more than reverent cow belt. India is not your Gau bhakt northern India. India is not the India where you count forward caste Hindus as the only citizen. India is not the India where the ancient terrorists golwalkar and savarkar are credited as Deshbhakts. RSS is Terror. Banning RSS is the path. Jailing supporters too. Yes, I eat cow meat, so does millions of Indians who don't have the reverent cow disease. Accept your folly, India is not a unitary nation. It is a diverse country with different culture and different nations stitched into one. Don't play the RSS swine sevak agendas. It will be disaster in the long run.

Government of Indian state to introduce a bill bolstering existing laws against butchering the revered animals

The leader of an Indian state has announced that slaughtering cows and transporting beef will soon be punishable by a life sentence, the harshest penalty yet for crimes against the revered animal in the Hindu-majority country.

The chief minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani, said his government would introduce a bill in the next week to bolster existing laws against butchering cows and related crimes. The current punishment is a Rs50,000 fine (£622) and up to seven years in jail.

“We want to make this law more strict,” said Rupani, a member of the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP), a Hindu nationalist party whose elected officials – including the Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi – have long championed a national ban on beef consumption.

“In the bill, we will make a provision wherein people found involved in cow-slaughtering as well as transportation of beef will be punished with life imprisonment,” Rupani told a gathering at a Hindu social organisation. “Their vehicles too will be seized permanently.”

A number of BJP-led states have extended bans or tightened punishments against cow slaughter since Modi became prime minister in 2014. The former Gujarat chief minister was elected on a platform that included a vow to outlaw it.

Killing cows or transporting beef in states such as Haryana, Jharkand or Jammu and Kashmir is punishable by large fines and up to 10 years’ prison. Beef consumption is permitted in only eight of India’s 29 states and territories.

Most Hindus honour cows as the embodiment of the principle of non-violence and idealise the animal as a selfless, nourishing mother.

But attitudes towards beef consumption are not uniform across the country. Some southern Indian Hindus regularly eat beef, as do Muslims and members of less socially dominant castes who regard the animal as a cheap source of protein.

The Modi government has reportedly asked the country’s agriculture ministry to explore the possibility of a nationwide ban but has chosen to tread carefully in implementing its election promise.

Cow protection has been a trigger for sectarian violence throughout modern Indian history and a resurgence in recent years has been linked to an increasingly assertive Hindu nationalist movement.

A Muslim villager from the outskirts of Delhi was lynched in September 2015 after being accused of storing beef in his freezer, a murder that government ministers were accused of underplaying.

Bands of self-styled “cow protectors” have sprung up in northern India, and have been accused of fomenting sectarian violence and carrying out vigilantism.

Cow-protection gangs were rebuked by Modi last year after videos emerged of their members flogging young Dalits. The least powerful group in the caste hierarchy is traditionally enlisted to dispose of dead cows.
