Cousin marriages (we need to talk about this)

What do you think?

  • Don't do it full stop

  • It's fine so long as it doesn't become a generational habit

Sharia allow 1st cousin despite the crazy risk of disabled children and disaeses :(:o:

Because as a one off event it's fine dude, it's only when it occurs over generations, and sharia doesn't specify about that.

What percentage of people in Pakistan have cousin marriage 40%?

70%.

I don't know I can only share the experiences of my extended family. Only one couple who are cousins are married to eachother the rest are married to people they share no family history with.

Allah could have warned about it? Perhaps my parents would have taken heed if Allah specified it, was he unaware of the dangers and risks or did he forget to mention it? One can't help but feel this way... my friend also had a disabled brother who just pased away. :(

You know it's sad thing this is. I jog in my park every day and often see these special needs vans that bring children for fresh air. Too often the child/young adult sat in the wheelchair being pushed by some young female council care worker (probably straight out of school) is Pakistani most likely as @save_ghenda mentioned from Mirpur. That is not right. Those individuals trapped in their cursed bodies for life. Their parents need wacking no offence. Whilst we can't avoid misfortune but we know we can reduce it. But I know some Mirpuri familes who have grand, parent, child all married to cousins. The cvictims of this practice are the broken bodies struggle with life. And please don't take this as a attack against people from Mirpur but this is fact and needs addressing.

Natural selection at work?

Allah has not specified about doing it continuously. That's all I will say.

Stop blaming your problems on God Almighty! Blame your parents or your friends parents for not learning about Islam!

This generation not going to succeed in my life time then.... Maybe in my 'healthy' childrens life time Pak may become a better country and significantly wealthier, did you know homoesexuality is rampant in Pak. :o:

There is no point trying to educate some people as they have merged their village tribal culture with Islam. Islam is very open and encourages marriages between Muslims across the globe. This cannot be accepted by Pakistanis who hold their village roots dear.

I don't care, they need to learn. If they won't learn it optionally then it's time to force them.

I think it would be weird if you grew up with your cousin like brother and sister and then one day got married. That would "feel" like incest.
But if your parents hook you up with your cousin from another country, it's not all that bad....
Though, I would assume generation after generation of cousin marrying could lead to genetic defects. I'm not a scientist, but this is my 2 cents

You are 100% correct.

These articles are a little extreme about it, but their basic message is somewhat correct. Generations of cousin marriage has ruined many Muslim countries and is why we lack the same progress the West has.
