What's new

countries should be buying Saab’s Gripen fighter jet

. .
We are a piss poor country mate.
Pal,
But we can still afford 2 sqds of gripen
36 aircrafts.....
And back in 2000-2005,the circumstances was not that worse......

Gripen E is designed so that the customer can add new weapons without having to get help or approval from the manufacturer or any pissed off Superpower.
Why whole Europe prefer Eurofighter?

.
Nice marketing. Scenarios are just that scenarios.
Jf17 has data link.
Jf17 can land on roads.
Jf17 is modular
Jf17 can do air to air and air to ground.

So other than slick marketing what is so impressive?

Gripen E has advanced networking, cooperative Electronic warfare usin Gallium Nitride transistors, sensor fusing.
It has the widest arc AESA radar on the market, and can hand over a fired missile to another aircraft, while turning away from the target, while the JF-17 have to run towards the incoming Meteor. The turnaround time of a Gripen E is 10 minutes for refuelling and rearming.
The Gripen E is designed to be able to take off within a minute from the order given.
The Man Machine Interface is way superior to anything else on the market according to pilots that tested at least the fighters from the West. The pilot can concentrate on getting the job done.

The main difference between a Gripen E and a JF-17 is that normally a Gripen E will shoot down a JF-17, while the JF-17 on the other hand will be shot down by a Gripen E.
A small but significant difference.

@seven0seven please explain it in simple conventional words.

Why whole Europe prefer Eurofighter?
Except for those countries in the Eurofighter consortium, only one additional country bought Eurofighter - Austria. Austria is considering getting rid of their Eurofighters due to their limited capabilities (they have Tranche 1). They are looking at Gripen as a replacement. All Eurofighter operators are trying to sell off their Tranche 1, but noone is buying, since you cannot upgrade them to even Tranche 2, let alone Tranche 3.

There is also a sea gripen?
There is a proposal for Gripen M (Maritime) and development had been done in the U.K. where they have expertise in carrier operation, but it will only be completed together with a customer.
The Gripen M would have a tailhook, and strengthened undercarriage, but the probability that it will be completed seems low at the moment.

We currently use
1.mirages (considering both 3&5 as single)
2.F-7
3.C-130
4.refueling tankers
5.F-16
6.JF-17
7.K-8
What will happen if v add another one?

It will be a maintenance nightmare. Two platform of the same category. And why will US allow it to when they can sell their F-16s???
