What's new

confused sindhi

bhai aap solid ho. ekdum jassoos type..
If you were born in the early 90's how can you be only 16? Surely you have to be at least around 20, if you stretch early 90's to 1994-95.

I am 16. My grandmother wants to visit Hyderabad next year because she'd like to see her hometown once more, and I might visit, although we're monitoring the current situation in Pakistan to ascertain whether it's safe or not. I don't know what to expect, but I figure I'd enjoy it.

You are very young. I hope you find what you are looking for. As far as i am concerned you don't need a 2nd identity if you take pride in yourself for simply a human being. Once you figure that out you will find your ground to connect with everyone regardless of their cultural or linguistic diversity.

Hey American, Sindhi,& Hindu, Don't worry go visit Hyderabad just follow basic precautions. If you have any issues in Karachi or Hyderabad contact me on this forum.

look it is quite simple.[/quite]

No its not

[quite]Most people calling themselves Pakistanis in Pakistan all have Indian origin. So does your parents and grand parents.

No we don't. We have Pakistani origin. Pakistanis have been here for a good 9000 years. Just because we built a new nation state in 1947 doesn't mean our roots have changed.

If you define your identity = ethnicity, nationality, residence, religion and culture in your case it will be - Sindhi, American, American, Hindu, American. Your grand parents' culture is different from yours.

One defines identity differently than others. He will slowly grow out of it.

A typical Pakistani in Lahore will by that definition be Punjabi, Pakistani, Pakistani, Muslim, Lahori. Notice, the cultural diversity within Pakistan is so vast that there is no such thing as Pakistani culture whereas the similarity between a current day Texan and somebody Wisconsin outweigh their differences - hence Lahori, not Pakistani.Thank you stars for it by the way.

Pakistanis, especially the younger generation don't make a huge deal about their ethnolinguistic identity. Pakistaniat is an egalitarian concept not an exclusive one.

Pakistan around for 9000 years?

ofcourse the area called Pakistan now existed;

but the country called Pakistan did not. it was only started in 1947.

the religion practiced now in Pakistan did not. your ancestors practiced various forms of religions now called Hinduism, Zorarastrianism etc.

the term Pakistani can only come from Pakistan which is nothing but a country that started in 1947. So anyone borne before 1947 cannot have a Pakistani origin, whether you like it or not.

In fact, many citizens of current day BD can also call themselves having a Pakistani origin if they want (they mostly don't because they consider it an intermediary one given their Indian Bengali origin)

Pakistan is the name of a nation state entity. Pakistanis as a whole have been living in these lands since the stone age.

ofcourse the area called Pakistan now existed

So did the people.

but the country called Pakistan did not. it was only started in 1947.

As a nation state entity, yes but didn't start its existence in 1947.

the religion practiced now in Pakistan did not. your ancestors practiced various forms of religions now called Hinduism, Zorarastrianism etc.

Our ancestors didn't practice Hinduism nor Zoroastrianism. Our ancestors from the bronze age practiced a distinct form of Sumerian paganism which went extinct. Later generations after the bronze age period practiced Buddhism till we adopted Islam. Zoroastrianism has never been huge in Pakistan throughout history though many have lived here.

the term Pakistani can only come from Pakistan which is nothing but a country that started in 1947. So anyone borne before 1947 cannot have a Pakistani origin, whether you like it or not.

Politically yes but not ethnically or culturally. Just because you call people living in Riyadh Saudis or the ones living in Dubai as Emiratis, doesn't mean they are no longer arabs or don't belong to their tribes.

In fact, many citizens of current day BD can also call themselves having a Pakistani origin if they want (they mostly don't because they consider it an intermediary one given their Indian Bengali origin)

Again politically only. A Pakistani is like a black South African. He calls himself a South African politically but is also indigenous to his/her own land.

Typo - I was born in the late* 90's. 1998. My parents were born in the 60's and my grandparents in the 30's.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I think I have relatives in Hyderabad, although my grandparents haven't been in contact with anyone in Pakistan so the odds of us reconnecting with anyone are probably nil.

You are a Sindhi my friend .. What happened in 47 wasn't confined to one region ... Everyone suffers Hindus,Muslims,Sikhs .:

Now coming back to your question ... Goin by logic are an American ..by nationality ... Sindhi by ethnicity ... And your homeland is Sindh-Pakistan .. It's sad to hear what your grandparents (give my respects)... But they did chose to stay after 47... Any hows to be hones Sindhis are one of the most Secular and nationalistic people of Pakistan...
I hope you enjoy your stay in your "homeland" ..
TC .. God bless.

Have a nice stay. There is a huge thriving Sindhi community in India in Mumbai and Gujarat. If you visit here, you will quite feel at home.

Pakistan is a closed chapter. If you hear from any relatives, count them lucky, but otherwise it's along time and the past is no longer present today. If you want to help present generation Sindhis who continue to emigrate to India, let me know.

hi, you are a pakistani. Indians are racially different from you because most of them are shudras and dalits. We have another Pakistani hindu member on the forum as well. I think his name is @Dalit

Anyways, I think you should visit Pakistan before completely disconnecting yourself from the coutry. You are a son of the soil after all.

I have always maintained that the biggest loser of Partition was the Sindhi Hindu (non Muslim) community as they lost all of their homeland to an Islamic republic. There should have been a partition of Sindh like Punjab and Bengal and Sindhi non Muslims should have had their part of Sindh in India.
