First off, the objection is not on the use of Sunny Leone as a brand ambassador as much as using Navratri (a religious Festival) to sell condoms.
It is a fact that the abortion rate increases in states that have robust Navratri celebration which is probably why the condom company decided to put up this marketing campaign.
Contextual Relevance and all that....

On the highlighted, yes there is no censorship in the US per se, but brands do take sensitivities of their clientele into consideration when creating ad campaigns. Not to mention that there exist uber sensitive folks in the US who feel equally offended with ad campaigns targeting sensitive issues such as abortion.
The Tim Tebow issue comes to mind when he became the face of the Pro Lifers post his success at Florida and short lived NFL career.
So this isn't unheard of in the US.

Nothing to do with her background.Few people find it offensive cause the ad uses religious term with condom.Had there been different actress the reaction would have been same.
