Ever wished you had a vehicle that could manoeuvre the roads of Bangalore like a two-wheeler and still be as comfortable as a car? Three students from HKBK College of Engineering have built a car that may just be the solution you are looking for.
Syed Zeeshan K., Syed Arifullah and Sanu Rahman have come up with “The Concept Car” which is a convergence of a car and a two-wheeler. The vehicle will soon be road-ready with a licence from the Union Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways and the students plan to patent it by September.
The car is designed in such a way that up to three people can be accommodated one behind the other, but the team hopes to raise the passenger capacity. It is half the width of a conventional car, and the suspension system tilts successfully to shift the centre of gravity during turns, making it safer than its narrow design purports. “Since we used a 150 cc auto two-stroke engine, the car consumes less fuel and hence offers better mileage,” says Syed Arifullah.
The entire vehicle has been built from scratch, with the team coming up with everything from engine fabrication to interiors.
The car, which runs on petrol, is also intended to be extended to work on LPG. As of now, the car gives an approximate mileage of 30 to 35 kmpl.
“We had no sponsors for the car which took Rs. 1.5 lakh to build and everything was self-funded,” says Sanu Rahman.
The team claims that when mass produced, the car may be priced around Rs. 70,000, like most two-wheelers in the market.
