The fact of the matter is that there is no consensus academically on whether the compass was passed along from China by the Silk road or some other means, or whether Europe created the compass independently. It is generally accepted that a south pointing compass type was mentioned earlier in China than a north pointing one in Europe, but not that the European compass derived from the Chinese one.

Did you read the second link on the differences? Besides which this is about Europe, not the Islamic world, whose first mention of the compass is after Europes, and whose name is arguably derived from the italian name. This is an argument against diffusion.

Just because they came into being in relatively the same time period doesn't mean they are related... Agriculture was developed indendently in multiple parts of the world (and interestingly enough) during roughly the same time period. but now you paste this, that shows the compass is referenced in europe 73 years after china.... and it actually coincides with my earlier statements that europeans has it in the 11th or 12th century..
