Is this comparison only for commodity price? If so please include also international market price and that of neighboring countries so that we can see whether it is too high or low compared to that.

Syndicate and middle men are the main problem in this regard. They make more money then the growers. There is no check on them. Food ministry should introduce a government agency which will buy directly from the farmers and distribute it to the market.

@ No theory will be applicable during AL govt.

@ "Food ministry should introduce a government agency which will buy directly from the farmers and distribute it to the market. " Another level of corruption will introduce in the society. Now-a-days what's practically happens in the food ministry ? The govt agency people buy rice/jute from the middle class business man who belongs to AL and having govt Food Trade License. And they then inturn buy from the another middleman those who directly goes to various huts/bazars. So in the true sense the actual farmers never gets the actual prices of their commodities.

So the syndicates of Tariq, Falu and Mamun are still controlling RAWamy markets? But alas! Like Tariq's TK/=14000 crores in Malaysian banks couldn't be found, his syndicates are remained as ghosts forever.

The free market economic just does not working here in Bangladesh.

Just give you a simple example, go to any Kitchen market in Dhaka and you will find every shop keepers asking the same price for the same produce. They create a syndicate even within the market. I live in Uttara and in the west side of the Airport Road fruits sells twice the price of the eastern side of the road. You cant even negotiate price as all the shop keepers will ask the same price. This is how bad is our supply chain system in Bangladesh. And the worst part of it, nobody is accountable.

If we look at the western world free market where big corporate are controlling all the retails. Some may think its a bad thing but the better part of it, they are accountable. A corporate cant drastically hike prices overnight without making an alleby to the government. Also government can impose some sort of accountability to those corporate.

As long as the free reign of very small traders controlling the market there will be no government able to control market.

Your fundamental assumption on free market in Bangladesh is deeply flawed. Free market in Bangladesh does not exist whatsoever period. Althoug I do agree corporatism at some point does benefit the masses. Many western countries produce more using 2% of the land Bangladesh uses. The main assumption the govt makes is that it by letting a few corporations take over ie injecting capital will drive out the farmers which is a ridiculous statement. It will rather push down prices and benfit more people

Said well though I believe replacing bal with bnp will not make any difference, farmers/growers will be suffering, both parties are same on this issue.
