Islamabad, Pakistan - The head of U.S. Special Operations Command Admiral Eric T. Olson arrived in Pakistan on Monday to discuss defense cooperation with the Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Tariq Majid at the Joint Staff Headquarters.

"Matters related to professional interest were discussed during the meeting," the Pentagon said in a statement; no other details from the meeting were divulged.

The U.S. Admiral served on several positions including overseas assignments as a United Nations Military Observer in Israel and Egypt, and as the Navy Programs Officer in Tunisia.

His previous visit to Pakistan was in November in an effort to get the cooperation of Pakistani tribal leaders to fight terrorists.

Now we know...

Now how was he able to convince the tribal leaders? The americans have influence to this part of the world, i really doubt. Perhaps fatman sir you can put more light on to the matter.

dear ice - it says "in a effort" so nothing is certain but the americans have money and money talks in the tribal areas!!!

Hi,

I believe that this visit was assurance plus assessment type visits. Assurance is that everything is ok so far---don't worry about the media---you are getting everything that you want----we just want to check that you are doing everything that you promised to do so that we don't get an egg on our face.

There is no direct connection b/w the US and the tribals. GoP and PA are the go between. In all honesty, this is an indication that the US has finally got on the same page as the Pakistani Army and Govt. We have been telling them that the tribal leaders have to be brought on the side of the government by offering them financial and developmental incentives. His visit is a routine one where I am sure some exchange of information is occurring between the US SOC and Pakistan Army in terms of where things are with the tribal leadership.
