Coca Cola: We will invest $5 billion in India by 2020

India has a demographic dividend and the fundamentals of the economy are inherently strong. However, we are facing some headwinds and some sectors have seen slowdown in offtake.

The beverage industry, however, has continued to grow, and that is a good sign. The growth in this sector signals the change in lifestyles, increased awareness about hygiene and quality, and convenience that packaged beverages offer.
Going forward, the country needs strong and continued partnerships between civil society, business and the government to realise the promise that the Indian economy holds. The government needs to have a long-term outlook to spur growth.

On our part, we are very positive about our outlook and approach to the business in India and this market is critical to achieve our vision 2020.

The Indian market has tremendous growth potential and we are working with our bottling partners to leverage this growth. The opportunity in the packaged beverage segment is immense and our effort in India is to be directed at being the beverage of choice. We need to continue to do the right things every day.

We have witnessing good growth over the last several years. Coca-Cola in India has registered 27 consecutive quarters of volume growth, of which 19 have been quarters of double-digit growth. We are now set to build on the strong foundation that we have laid for our business.

Our bottlers are investing in infrastructure, front end capabilities, talent acquisition and talent development, horizontal and vertical expansion etc. As a system, we will be investing $5 billion by the year 2020 and this in keeping with our growth plans and targets towards achieving our vision 2020 goals.

Indians dont drink colas like the Americans. And no large colas at all

Americans are getting healthier with their eating habits, ever since the US Military named Obesity as a threat to national security and the massive media health push by Michelle Obama and others most Americans are switching over to water and 'energy hydration' drinks.

The effects of the last 10-20 years will take time to correct, at least the problem the identified and steps are being taken.

The consumer sector in America is the most powerful, the industries supplying this sector will not go down quietly.

Coca Cola and Pepsi are making far greater investments in non-soda beverages in India. Notably in fruit juices and tea and coffee based beverages. They see better returns in these areas.
Many trans-nationals had to change their business models in India. McDonalds is the biggest example of that. "No-Beef" Burgers and more vegetarian items on their menus than meat-based ones. Finally "Only Veg" McDonalds outlets in some parts of India.
LOL, Ronald McDonald had to re-invent himself!

Indians do not drink soda like the American do. the beer belly's you see in India are not from beer.

And where are they gonna get all the water from for their millions of coke bottles? As it is, there is a dire shortage in the country. Ordinary folk rely on water tankers by paying through their nose. And here we have the American mafia coming in who will get water at subsidized rates for manufacturing coke while the poor will have to shell out more for their drinking water.

Mera Bharat Mahaan!

They might not invest in coke only... they make lot of money from bottled water and other drinks...
