RAWALPINDI:
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Kayani visited Tarbela Base on Wednesday and met SSG personnel.

According to an ISPR statement, General Kayani lauded the role of SSG in Operation Raah-e-Rast. On arrival at the base, SSG General Officer Commanding Major General Haroon Aslam received him. Later, General Kayani also visited the Army Aviation Base.

Tarbella Base----- hmm it rings bells.
Seen it on Google Earth, looks like a runway and some under construction hangers. Can anny body confirm the aimm of eastablishing this base. There has been and still, a lot of hot discussions, by politicians, media personnel, analysts, about presence of Americans. I heard a programme, (Geo or Ajj), Dr Shireen Mazari saying presence of 300 Americans. Also in the program, a person from government, PPP, was defending it saying, thses are specialists military trainers, to train Pak Army for latest weapons, inducted in Army which include night vision devices.
What is the truth

This is my 250th post

hmm maybe some drones flying from there,,,
well it is one way or the other, if we do not stop them comming from other side of border then there is nothing wrong in letting them fly from inside Pakistan, perhaps we can have some sneak peeks!! or some $$$

Tarbela is now the official HQ of Special Services Group (SSG). The SSG HQ has shifted from Cherat to Tarbela. The compound already had housed the Zarrar Company, Tarrar Company and Musa Company of SSG and now it has the GOC SSG, Major General Haroon Aslam also located there (they were in Cherat before). The photo above has been taken at the Helipads located in the far end of the base. Initially, the Special Operations Task Force (SOTF) was located at the same place which now has been moved to Cherat. Tarbela SSG HQ, by virtue of its location has no runway or airbase, only helipads for Mi-17 and likes to operate from.

Tarbela SSG HQ is no mystery as some elements are desperately trying to project it to be. Yes, the SSG HQ also houses some resident US Rangers for the purpose of imparting training and intel to the SSG HQ.

The recent air assault in Peochar Valley was launched from this base. Its very near to the swat valley & most of the aviation sorties are launched from here. It has become kind of an important airbase for army aviation as well as SSG guys. Also don't think Americans use it for drones, may be Army drones are being used to launch from here as its near to swat & can provide critical info to the army or SSG guys for their operations.

And having Americans may not be such a big issue, they may be the ones who are jointly training with SSG guys or giving training to the SSG for the counter insurgency operations. Also, it may be the base for the SOTF which has been created for rapid deployment, just like the air assault in peochar. It was the first such operation by SSG on such huge scale, nearly one brigade was air lifted. Americans may have helped in training for the air assault operations as they have expertise in doing large scale operations.

This base is definitely for PA aviation assets & SSG SOTF a rapid deploying force.

oh well i was just kidding, i have no beleive on some suspisious container being shifted to tarbela base by US army.
yes tarbela being the heatquater of SSG have gained lot of importance specially during the curent operations going on in noethren areas and being as SSG HQ it also see lots of army aviation activity for paratroop landings in SWAT, one that was made public was when military para-dropped SSG to capture heights of Swat mountains almost in begining of the operation!!

as far as moving the HQ there is concerned it is a great move. tarbela being a prime asset to Pakistan is a prime target for enemies,,
