ISLAMABAD - Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani will pay official visit to Russia next week signalling the possibility of a marked shift in Pakistan-Russia ties marred by the Cold War rivalry.
According to military sources, COAS Kayani will visit Russia in the first week of October where he is expected to meet the President of Russia along with other high officials.
Sources further added that Russian President Vladimir Putin had earlier postponed his visit to Islamabad.
Vladimir Putin was arriving to attend quadrilateral summit of Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Russia and Pakistan in Islamabad which was scheduled on October 2, however his visit will have no impact on the visit of Army Chief to Russia next week in this regard.

So what is "Historic" here? You have to learn how to deal with countries with balanced relations. Pakistani people used to jump in every issue rather then act carefully.

well wait for another deal delay news and then see bharti n Rus friendship or special partnership lol,

on topic:
this is what that matter the most, COAS visit is what PAkistan needed not political games with PPP.slow steps will improve our relationship, so next time Russia will think before giving opinion directly in the favor of india because it obvious positive cooperation comes with many trades off, and there is no special relationship just interests and business, sadly indians think they are very dear to Russians.

if 40 yrs of indo-russia partnership or interest couldnt offer anything to russians then god bless pak-russia relations

keep dreaming and lets wait what u will get in bucket ;)..

yes sir time will tell and will surprise too, as you guys are now getting lil surprised by Russia unpleasing policies in your current deals this might indicate alot of changes to come in times ahead.

we never stop dreaming and that keep us achieving new grounds all the times.
peace.

Russia is free to invite anybody.Even obama meets with putin n discuss issues ..now wat? ..

kayani is not from mars :) and even if u manage to bring russia on pipeline,it will be enough otherwise russia can install few steel mills in paksitan only

forget about any major deal ...rest will be cleared in few mnths

Sorry we aren't the delusional ones living in the dreams of brotherly relations and higher than mountain friendship..We had known its all the game of converging/diverging interests decades ago while someone was forming pact after pact with bigger powers only to used and thrown again and again..Even in the russia-india-pak scenario its just business again. We didn't seek russian permission in joining US in various projects..Neither do they need our permission-its all the matter of profitability and power to influence..

I do agree with your post, all think tanks knows that how international relationship are evaluated, we never start bashing china for j10s or any deal that was committed but not materialized yet, like you guys currently bashing your so called special partner Russia , point is our think tanks made a clever move, we build common perception in our population that china is one of the greatest friends of pakistan, that's why it's all love that makes us say brotherly relations and higher than mountain, and yes it's true too, as china and pakistan holds comparative way higher mutual interests than indians and russians whose mutual interests are majorly just military deals.

Geopolitical situation is changing rapidly so the partnership also changing .
Russia knows the important of pakistan and knows the unstable pakistan is only for short period of time .
Pakistan is only country that can bring glory to central asia ,and we all know future belong to central asia .
China taking over of gwadar port is to maintain uninterrupted supply of crude oil to mainland in case of hostility in East china sea.
in near future we will see chinese war ship in gwadar, sri lanka, maldives and kenya.
Russia is changing and want to go back to it's glory days and pakistan is the only way to reach his goal .Putin sold the engine of JF-17 to pakistan even though india objected.
Central Asia will be in the center of the world in 5 - 10 years.

quiet very self contradictory post , "firsts Russia is free to invite anybody and then forget about any major deal" , we aren't saying that this visit will be game changer for us it's mere a small step towards better relationship between two countries. sorry you guys are even more excited than us on this that makes you create such assumptions, When we changed our status from rival to open for better relationship, sure that indicates we are coming to a place you don't like or digest.

While you get favor, getting something few are willing to sell you, we pay hard cash.

sir you can take it anyway you want

that's clever business strategy of us we give less and get proper package in return. sure we are competitive and alas im sorry if Russia is not generous like China :china: , you are paying more and getting less is your fault not ours.

sir you know that's media at its work nothing more with the spicy and big impact full words, after all they have to make money too.

I believe Coas knows very well where we stand in the Russian minds and what is the best options to take while current engagement, the best part is that Pakistan is getting mature in international dealings with such incidents :pakistan:
