RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said “as a nation we are passing through a defining phase. We are critically looking at the mistakes made in the past and trying to set the course for a better future. An intense discussion and debate is natural in this process.”

Speaking to officers at the GHQ, General Kayani said that no individual or institution had the monopoly to decide what was right or wrong in defining national interest and it should emerge only through consensus. He added that Pakistanis have a right to express their opinions and the constitution provides a clear mechanism for it.

Kayani said: “We all have a great responsibility to shoulder. We should learn from our past, try to build the present and keep our eyes set on a better future. We all agree that strengthening the institutions, ensuring the rule of law and working within the well defined bounds of the constitution is the right way forward. Weakening of the institutions and trying to assume more than one’s due role will set us back. We owe it to the future of Pakistan, to lay correct foundations, today. We should not be carried away by short term considerations which may have greater negative consequences in the future. “

The COAS further said that the Armed Forces drew their strength from the bedrock of public support and national security was meaningless without it. “Therefore, any effort which wittingly or unwittingly draws a wedge between the people and Armed Forces of Pakistan undermines the larger national interest. While constructive criticism is well understood, conspiracy theories based on rumours which create doubts about the very intent, are unacceptable.”

Kayani added that the integrity and cohesion of the Armed Forces was essentially based on the trust reposed in them by the people of Pakistan. Strengthening this trust would ensure better security of the country. Equally important is the trust between the leaders and the Armed Forces. Any effort to create a distinction between the two, undermines the very basis of this concept and is not tolerated, be it Pakistan or any other country.

“While individual mistakes might have been made by all of us in the Country, these should be best left to the due process of law. As we all are striving for the rule of law, the fundamental principle; that no one is guilty until proven, should not be forgotten. Let us not pre judge anyone, be it a civilian or a military person and extend it, unnecessarily, to undermine respective institutions.”

“All systems in Pakistan appear to be in a haste to achieve something, which can have both positive and negative implications. Let us take a pause and examine the two fundamental questions; One, are we promoting the rule of law and the Constitution? Two, are we strengthening or weakening the institutions? In the ultimate analysis, all of us would have served Pakistan better if history and our future generations judge us positively.”

ah defending General Aslam Baig and Durrani.... the two innocent genralzz

no individual (Read; except me) or institution(Read; except army) had the monopoly to decide what was right or wrong in defining national interest and it should emerge only through consensus.

simple the army doesnot want to be held accountable, that is why it will do whatever, but thanks to Allah its a changed Pakistan, we will not bow to guns anymore !!

Be warned Mr COAS you are no more than a servant under the defense ministry, you have no say in policy making, you can only suggest like a servant to his boss... policy making is the job assigned by Nation to its elected representatives !!

he also didnt like the mqm's so called refrendum

This speech is the direct result of internal pressure which is being built inside the army. Civilians commit crimes, destroy institutions, loot, pollute, kill , betray so and so forth, very few are actually held accountable. But a few mistakes made in past by army personel are being portrayed as history's greatest sins.
I personally believe that Pakistan Army will remain the center of policy making till the times to come because it is the only institution which is truly loyal to Pakistan. CJ came back to office as a result of secret negotiations [ feels like a boss lol ] , politicians [all corrupt] came via NRO .. While General Kayani watches on :big_boss: .
Army is the only institution who is sacrificing the most for Pakistan , also facing strict criticism by media and CJ .. yes i wrote CJ .. So to convey a clear message that limits should be remembered or else there always remains an OTHERWISE option :smokin:

It's either employee to his boss or servant to his master.

How can Kayani warn SC of Pakistan??....there is no constitution for Pak army and the ISI....Pak army,ISI are RULING and Plundering Pakistan.....if anyone dares Pak army or ISI, he gets eliminated....Pak army has forced Pakistanis to become it's slaves....Pakistanis have no voice,no choice...they can't say anything against Pak army or ISI even if they are at fault...there are different set of rules for Pak army and ordinary Pakistani citizens......really it's high time for Pakistanis to get united and stand up against barbaric Pak army and the ISI and teach them a lesson

And you being an Indian have Pakistan's best interests at mind?

you should also thank kiyani for that he is the coas and perhaps the only coas in the history of pakistan who took all these generals and hig ranking officers out of politics and back to barracks. wont bow wasnt it the people who were saying emergency just a year ago but kiyani said no army will stay out of politics.......

in my personal opinion i say army should stay out of politics but should alos not be under the defence minister our politicians have a habbit of using the army for their own ends let them do their stuff their own way the govt and people will take care of themselves i like this approach from kiyani

And you being an Indian have Pakistan's best interests at mind?

apparently we over here that criticize or blame the army dont live in pakistan bcz the army is strangling the poor people and the only ones that can save us are either americans or indians plz save us from this monsterous army ( SARCASM)

Hint:You know Icarus, if it wernt for Pakistan trying to take Kashmir, India doesnt really want anything from Pakistan. Not one inch.

dude dont bring it over here it has a thread just dont bring it over here

Pakistani is turning into one of those Soviet Russia sayings :P

Only in Pakistan can the Army warn the Supreme Court  Its the other way around in the rest of the world  Grow a pair of balls already guys, and control the military which it was meant for, and dont let them control you through fear :mps:

listen i say we shouldnt just hate on the army infact none does that but yes these retired generals should be taken into questioning but the bad news is donating loads of cash to a party for whatever reason is not against the law supreme court should ask the parliament to pass a law that the military institute cannot give donations or have any political relations with politicians

By warned, it does not literally mean that the CoAS took CJ by the collar and told him to piss off. I think you guys should stop acting like you give a damn about our well-being, because you don't.
