COAS attends Al Khalid-1 handing over ceromony as CG at HIT - ISPR

Good news Pak Army FINALLY received the next version of the AK series. Since the Ukrainians had some inputs in this latest version probably in its engine and transmission , i wonder if their know how in the ERA and other Tank defense mechanisms can be sought!I really like the protective armour layouts of OPLOT.

. . . . . .
I never said ifs just Terrain.
Neither countries in war time will have a 100% logistics system which can operate at its full strength.
You also have to understand few other things as well majority area close to border on Pakistan sides are towns and cities or populated villages which will make harder to maneuver even for light tanks.
Huge tanks battle will be mostly on few specified open sectors.
Lets agree with its numeric advantage indian forces are able to push defensive posts of PA and push inside few KM but than Advantage will be with PA as for last decade they have been continually fighting this.
Majority of current warfare can be easily handed to Drones and they will be much more affect in every regard but for that you need few other things beside spares.
Your A.I's Capabilities as well your strength of network, its capability to fight jamming & External attacks. If you one breach you can lose whole war
I understand that its hard and sometimes even impossible to capture towns, cities, populated areas without the main offensive weapon - tanks. T-59 and AZ used in western Pakistan are a testimony to that.

This concept of 'huge' battle tank is a misconception, a MBT with 55+ or 60+ tons maybe? Armor increases weight, which then needs a heavier engine and affects P/W ratio, which leads towards mobility factors including terrain handling, bridge crossing, recovery and logistics. There are ways to improve armor and increase survivability of tanks within 45-55 Ton weight range.

PA doesn't war inside its own territory, PA wants to take war inside India and bargain for territory when the war ends. This is why cantonments have been built close to the border.

Any weapon system alone cannot win a war- be it drone or tank or just infantry. They all need support from other arms and weapon systems, which is why i mentioned combined arms. Armour+ Infantry + Artillery + AD + Aviation + PAF + other technical arms - Now you have a balanced force with all types of weaponry available to take out any type of enemy target from any range, from any altitude, from any calibre, to cause any type of damage.

Please re-read what i wrote in 1st bit.
Al khalids Tank design is out dated by modern standards , thats a fact.
More than half of indian fleet is T72. So yes they are out dated
No body is saying tanks and other systems are out dated its just the next step for evolution.
Majority of current weapon systems can be made automated.
With all of them being automated they can coordinate better.
Less chance of human error.
Lower risk of risking human life.
List goes on and on but simple fact is Pakistan armed forces have been ignoring this and depending too much on others.
Small investment in these sectors will earn huge benefit for Pakistan in future in economy and in defence

Can you tell in what sense is AK's design outdated ? which MBT design are you comparing it with that you think has modern design in terms of combat performance which AK doesn't have ?

Pakistan has not been ignoring unmanned weapon systems. Smaller UGVs have been conceived. Its not easy to have a fully robot tank, unless you have an example that has been cleared for combat today and has joined military forces ? Some tanks systems have been automated, like auto loading or RCS/RWS, especially the turret part. A version of Merkava 4 has some of its systems automated which gives crew to concentrate on missions more effectively.

@Signalian What is your view on the pace of the Al-Khalid programme? The acquisition of VT-4 gives the impression that we are perhaps falling behind.

Abrams and Leopard 1000mm against APFSDS on front.
Around 1600mm against HEAT.
With newer armor for Abrams it can go up to 1700mm.
With Khalid
Turrent offers protection between 500 to 700
With newer Lightweight ERA developed that offer goes up for different rounds from 400 to 600
Some other issue faced by al Khalid as well.
Worth a listen
