If this is true and he can enforce it.. then all the best.

Stop the use of plastic bags ..
Period!

Congrats we import tones of raw plastic , it will mean no more Import of plastics
Saving us 2-3 Billion dollars in imports

Trade Pakistan, should tell all importers to not import plastic

Very good decision, I remember I used to go buy ice block in summers and take a cotton cloth called pona in our area in 80s together with me, many people used to have cotton permanent bags to buy groceries etc. and used to take a steel house pot to buy chanay/meat dishes from a food stall in 80s. The use of polythene bags was quite limited in those days but post 90s there has been an outbreak of excessive use of polythene bags in punjab. So very very good step, I think other provinces also need to adopt this ban on polythene bags.

Wont do shit unless the police enforces it and the shop owners are punished

The shop owners buy their polythene bags from wholesale distributors which are always few in every area so police only needs to keep those distributors under strict surveillance.

Logically first step should be banning the manufacturing, Imports and sales of polythene bags itself to stop them from reaching to shops.
Ya that works

True

If this initiative is successfully implemented then Buzdar will be remembered as one of the visionary chief ministers of punjab, otherwise the poor chap is always ridiculed by everyone often without any reasons.

Bans dont work unless alternatives are pushed aggressively, which are available easily in cost effective ways.
All the steps taken towards safeguarding nature is appreciated, but to make is success the habbits have to be changed and thats a hard process.

We also have bans, it works only till the time govt agencies are strict, once they go soft again the plastic bags creep in, especially at groccery stores, fruit and vegetable vendors etc.

we in Spain use these trolleys..no plastic bags.if we need any plastic bag we have to buy it in 5 to 10 cents

Get local women to weave resuable bags and sell those at grocery stores.
Win win win.

Definitely, boosts employment and the environment. Even on its own this is a good step. Horrible to see these plastic bags littered everywhere. Just hope the police will enforce this law. Unfortunately many people in Pakistan and Punjab will only follow the rules if they are enforced strictly.
