ISLAMABAD: CIA Director Leon Panetta is in Pakistan on unannounced visit.

The CIA chief reached Pakistan on Thursday on a two-day visit. He will meet President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and other high civil and military officials during the visit.

CIA Chief Panettal arrives in Islamabad

CIA Director Leon Panetta has arrived in Islamabad on Friday morning. CIA Chief will hold talks with top Pakistani government and military officials during the visit, a private TV reported. According to sources, CIA Director will hold meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and top military and intelligence officials. Panetta in his meeting with the intelligence officials likely to raise the issue of the presence of Taliban Shura in Quetta, sources said. Pakistani officials have denied the US claims of top Taliban leaders presence in Quetta.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani during his meeting with the visiting CIA chief Leon Panetta stressed that the new US strategy for Afghanistan should not affect regional balance in South Asia.

Leon Panetta on the occasion asserted that the US is Pakistan’s strategic partner, and intends to have durable and long-term bilateral relations.

The Prime Minister cautioned that the US and ISAF offensives in Afghanistan in coming days could have its fallout in Pakistan’s province of Balochistan.

He said the mistrust and misconceptions must be cleared to forge improved bilateral strategic relations between the two countries. “In order to achieve this goal close cooperation between Pak-US intelligence agencies is needed, he stressed.”

CIA chief Leon Panetta said that the US is looking beyond Pak-US relations on war on terror.

Evidences of CIA involvement in Pak presented to US​

ISLAMABAD : Pakistan on Friday presented evidences of CIA involvement in the country to Director US Central Intelligence Agency Leon Panetta, Aaj News reported.

According to the channel, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Chief Lieutenant General Ahmed Shuja Pasha presented the evidences to Leon Panetta, who called on him during his two-day visit to Islamabad.

The channel, quoted the sources as saying that ISI chief Shuja Pasha has made it clear to Leon Panetta that CIA personnel were assisting the terrorism in Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director Leon Panetta on Friday urged Pakistan to expand the military operation in the Tribal Areas to target all extremists.

Sources told Daily Times Panetta praised the Pakistan Army’s recent action against terrorists in Swat and South Waziristan. They said the CIA chief encouraged military officials to continue the present momentum against terrorists and take action against those terrorists who frequently moved across the border and target US and other international forces in Afghanistan.

Panetta met President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Kayani and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Ahmed Shuja Pasha. Sources said Panetta held a detailed meeting with Pasha and discussed issues related to the war on terror, military-to-military cooperation and intelligence sharing to make joint efforts against terrorism more effective.

They said Panetta was informed about the “security compulsions” that should be kept in view while carrying out more military campaigns in the Tribal Areas. “Any expansion in military activity in these areas demands more troops and the possible relocation of some of troops from eastern borders, which is not possible in the existing security situation,” the sources said.
