What's new

Chinese Y-20, could help modernize Pakistan's transport capabilities.

any platform which used russian engines, would require an export NOC/licence from the russians. so until the chinese come up with Y-20's powered by chinese engines, forget it.!!!

Looks like another rip-off by China- looks almost identical to C-17. How does a transport plnae change the military balance in the region? India has always maintained a conventional superiority over Pakistan does this purchase really change anything?
Every transport plane has two wings and tails, therefore all of them are rip-off of Wright Brothers' design.

Can you be anymore stupid?

Surprised Pakistan using C-130 planes for air transport. How many such planes Pakistan is using and when first purchased

As a ally of US, pakistan should demand 5-6 C-17 Globemaster III and also equal no.s of C-130J Super Hercules from US.

These will be very useful in both military and humanitarian causes.

Don't have the money for both :)

Globemaster is too much for us, we don't have much distances to cover. C-130s are more then enough for now, but more of them or something like Y-9 would be added bonus. 6-8 IL-76s and / or may be Y-20s would be sufficient.

Fair enough !!

What model of C-130 PAF has? Are they J models? If not then is it possible for PAF to upgrade them to J standards?

Y-9 would fit in fine for moving in supplies and soldier units or machinery to needed areas , and their mid size would mean landing safely in smaller runways

China sees an opportunity to export the Xian Y-20 strategic transport, with a number of variants planned.

The remarks about the aircraft's overseas potential were reportedly made by Tang Jun, chairman of Xian Aircraft, which has produced a prototype of China's largest indigenously produced airlifter to date.

The report also quotes "aviation industry insiders" as saying that the Y-20 will be operational in China by 2017, and that the programme had its genesis in the 1990s.

Tang, however, gave no indication of the overall number of Y-20s that Beijing hopes to obtain.

The Y-20 conducted its first flight in late January from China's Yanlian airbase. The flight was covered extensively by the Chinese media.

After images of the four-engined airlifter appeared on Chinese defence websites in late 2012, Beijing confirmed the programme's existence in early January 2013.

The Y-20 is smaller than the Boeing C-17, but larger than the Ilyushin Il-76. Although Beijing has made great strides in developing its fighter fleet in recent years, the People's Liberation Army air force has a number of capability gaps, including strategic transport.

Y20 looks good but it is still running trials & is not going to get inducted any time soon, so Pakistan will have to wait for the induction Y20 in Chinese Army first.
