The Salt Lake games were held in Feb 2002, over a year before the invasion of Iraq and only 5 months after 9/11.

Might as well name it democratic games then Lol and limit it to only western countries and a select few small developing countries participating. But then again there are countries that are officially called democracies but they are far from it if we look at it for real, they too will need to be barred from participating making the sports event even more useless.
Will you say India, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Egypt, Qatar(hosting world cup ) Nigeria, Iran, Vietnam, Philippines, etc etc are real democracies?
So as you can see if we start making sports political then you might as well not have any international sporting event. Lol
