New Delhi: Amid the border standoff with China in Eastern Ladakh, India has given a strong message to Beijing: it will not stop developing infrastructure in strategic areas located along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Government sources said on Tuesday that the country’s leadership has taken a decision to this effect in the wake of China's well-coordinated efforts obstruct India’s infrastructure development moves in areas like eastern Ladakh and Sikkim.
The decisions were taken on a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and the three Service Chiefs. Earlier in the day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh too had chaired a meeting with the CDS and the three Service Chiefs during which a decision was taken to send in more troops to match China’s military strength in areas where standoffs are underway.
The decisions were taken a day before a crucial meeting of top commanders of the Indian Army, which is slated to undertake an in-depth review of the prevailing situation in several areas along the LAC. The three-day conference of the Army top commanders is beginning today (Wednesday).
The Army commanders are likely to focus their deliberations on the evolving situation in eastern Ladakh. As per top military sources, Indian and Chinese troops are engaged in an eyeball-to-eyeball face-off in Pangong Tso, Galwan Valley, Demchok and Daulat Beg Oldie.
The standoff between the armies of India and China had started on the evening of May 5, when troops from both sides indulged in a violent face-off at Pangong Tso lake. Since then, eyeball-to-eyeball situations have developed along several places along the LAC in Ladakh.
With the standoff failing to end even after three weeks, the Army has moved in more troops to sensitive border locations Ladakh as well as in North Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh. Sources said the aim behind sending these reinforcements and beef up deployment is to tell China that India will not buckle under aggressive military posturing by Beijing anymore.
It has been learned that during his meeting, Defence Minister Singh told the military leadership to carry on with key projects along the LAC, underlining that there was no need for a review amid the standoff with China. Such key projects along the LAC are underway in Ladakh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh.

Sources said China has been upset about India building a key road in the Finger area of Pangong Tso Lake besides another one that connects the Darbuk-Shayok-Daulat Beg Oldie road in Galwan Valley.
Over the last five years, the Indian government has taken up key projects to improve road and other key infrastructure along the LAC in order to enhance military preparedness to deal with any eventuality
