It does not serve expat workers well to physically assault under privileged locals, no matter what the offence was. Locals should be left to deal with locals. This comes across as very arrogant and imperious. Pathetic to see locals as bystanders when this is happening.

The Indian and some others seem to have a misunderstanding.
They think China is always copying, lying and cheating, enslaving the underprivilege and generally lucky with WTO ascension, generous help from other more powerful nations to get where it is.
Chinese knows a different story.
You knows, it is hilarious to sometimes read news story with the "at what cost" in its title, as if they have discovered some secret that they can reveal to Chinese surprise.
There is a monument in the most prestigious place in China capital, the Tiananmen square.

You see, Chinese are ancestor worshipper. They are lectured since they are a little kid by the gov't, by grandparent, parent, and elders/prominent member/cultural media in society all the times about what the cost of the long and arduous journey to get where it is today. It is a epic saga of millions and millions of blood, sweat and tears.
Telling Chinese people what the cost is would not deter Chinese from biting the bullet, because they knows that compare to what their forefather and many others has to go through, it is practically nothing.
Chinese would accept what they consider their necessary duty when it is their turn, and others would accept what other consider necessary Covid-death toll.
And yes, Chinese do not know when the pandemic measures is going to end.
Just like others would not know when the Covid death is going to end.
