Chinese Media: India's foreign policy self contradictory

It contains some fair points but I don't see India's foreign policy as being "self-contradictory" at all, in fact I think there is a clear agenda at work. India is trying to keep on the good side of everyone AND meet her own national interests- India still buying Iranian oil whilst under US/EU sanctions/pressure, signing co-operation and defence agreements with Saudi Arabia at the same time negotiating a free trade agreement with Israel, increasing trade with China year on year and getting closer with Japan.

Literally only in India!

Having said that I do think India should start to look beyond her introverted stance and take a more aggressive approach to world affairs in SOME cases.

All in all it's not bad at all...

Taking sides in issues in which we have no interest can alienate countries from India. when we have the option to sit out and we are not directly interested in the issue, we should exercise that option.

We are not a Russia or China or USA yet that we have to take a stand on every issue.

Right now economic development should be our main concern and for that we should have good relations with as many countries possible.

Thats what the chinese article calls for. We are now saying ourselves we are a power in Asia. Are we acting like one?
Lets say, we become permanent member at UNSC tomo. You still will call for India's vote to "abstain"?
There was atleast 2 cases where we should have made a stand. First on Crimea, taking Russia's side, and support Syria openly. In syria, considering we are a friend, even Syrian govt looked upto us. But we didnt do anything, instead of reading one lame statements readed continously from 1950's.

India is not a UNSC member right now. We can afford to stay neutral.

We have taken Russia's and Syria's side in both those respectve issues. However we have not been very flamboyant about it. We don't want to pi$$ off the West completely at a low stage of development where we desperately need their investment.

Yes, a surprisingly good article. Many points are quite valid.

Support the article. Its just frustrating to see India waste votes on many world bodies. We win elections to get a place in UNSC. But in major of decision we "abstain" from voting. SAme is the condition of India on many world bodies. Wasting votes, not taking places, is affecting India's name. Its time to have some spine. Rewrite the foreign policy.

..not have some spine, "show some spine", but its not time yet.
