CHINA
-- Two Chinese military aircraft came within 50 feet of a U.S. military aircraft over the South China Sea on Tuesday in an "unsafe" intercept, CBS News' national security correspondent David Martin reports.

The pilot of U.S. aircraft, an EP-3, reported it as an unsafe intercept by the Chinese J-11s and descended couple hundred feet to avoid a potential collision.

It occurred east of Hainan Island and south of Hong Kong.

This is the first "unsafe" Chinese intercept of an American plane since 2014. Safe intercepts are routine occurrences, Martin reports.

An EP-3 is the same kind of plane that was forced down on Hainan Island back in 2001.

U.S. Navy Captain Jeff A. Davis said in a statement that they are reviewing the May 17 intercept.

"The incident occurred in international airspace during a routine U.S. patrol in the South China Sea," the statement read. "Initial reports characterized the incident as unsafe."

Davis said they are addressing the issue through the appropriate diplomatic and military channels.

Obama administration is doing this and they call Trump a madman? Obama&Hillary are doing everything they can for WW3 whereas Trump just wants to talk to Kim Jong Un. I guess people will eventually understand what type of an hellhole the western mainstream media is.

Trust me, when Trump says he's "willing to talk", he means "do what we say, or else".

Trump has already indicated that he would increase patrols, and even allow Japan to develop nuclear weapons to deter any Chinese military action.

Yes! We are one step closer to war! Next time we should just shoot it down.

What is the EP-3 doing in our South China Sea ADIZ without permission anyway?

So long as China continues with the national security development plan in the SCS unimpeded (and even more aggressively), I am fine with that.

Let them burn money and keep us keep in mind who is our primary enemy.

There is difference in election rhetoric & reality.

The United States does not believe that the Chinese claim has any merit.
They are challenging the Chinese claim, and the Chinese Air Force backed down,
and resorted to unprofessional behaviour.
If China really believed its claim, it has to go to war with the U.S.

Maybe the Chinese leaders don't think the ADIZ is worth a war.

The reality is after the so-called pivot to Asia, China has more presence on SCS thanks to our greatest opponent USA. China gets more lands and more presence there, and US also protects its "world police" status by its own presence. So, win-win, no one loses anything, China gets the land and US gets the fame. Who loses? You can figure it out.

Of course there is, and there is little reason to believe that Trump would be able to pull off even 90% of his promises, but the ideas are still there.

And all that would be but hot air once Beijing's elite offers to expand his brand in China.

As bold his bravado is, Trump is the sole candidate with vested business interests in the country he vows to defeat.

How did China back down? Has China stop militaries any of our islet? Instead it's more of USN incompetency not able to stop the building. I dare USN to bomb the islet. But end of the day, US lack the ball to do it.

A coward try to call himself a winner? :D

Do you even know what is an ADIZ?

Russia and China fighter jets fly into Japanese and US ADIZ a few hundred times a year, maybe their leaders don't think ADIZ is worth a war. :woot::woot::woot::woot::woot:
