Chinese firm keen on power projects | Business | DAWN.COM
ISLAMABAD: Dongfang Electric Corporation of China, which is already working on two power projects in the country, has shown interest to negotiate more power projects with Pakistan.
The vice-president of Dongfang Zhu Yuanchao, leading a six-member delegation held talks with the Board of Investment chairman Saleem Mandviwalla here on Wednesday. He said the Chinese enterprise desired to invest in hydel, thermal, renewable energy and even nuclear power projects.
Dongfang operating in Pakistan for the past nineteen years is presently working on hydro and thermal projects in the country, including 425MW Nandipur thermal and 525MW Chichokimalian plants. Work on these projects would commence soon, Mr Yuanchao said.Mr Mandviwalla asked Dongfang to invest in power plants for industrial areas with the capacity of 100 to 200MW and said this would solve energy crisis faced by industries Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad and Sialkot.
He informed the Chinese that such power plants could be installed without the prior approval of the government and tariffs could also be charged in accordance to the production cost and profit margins.
In this way, the issue of delay in clearance of the payments from the government would also be solved, he added.
Mr Yuanchao revealed that Dongfang has achieved the annual production of power generating equipment for more than 30,000MW consisting of hydro, thermal, nuclear, wind, combine-cycle generating unit; and presently enjoys one-third domestic market share in thermal power and two-fifths in hydro power.
Dongfang exports complete power plants and equipment to over 30 countries involving projects in diverse fields.
