DJI in a statement given to Delhi-based English daily said that the drone is meant for weddings, films and other commercial events only.
“We do not sell directly to government bodies, though it is possible for them to buy from our website or via local sellers. DJI is focused on the creative and innovative uses of drones. We are proud that our products have been used for a wide range of applications including film making, agriculture, wedding photography, real estate, firefighting and search and rescue… That said, military and security applications are not a focus for us,” Spokesperson for DJI, Micheal Perry said.
There are only two authorized dealers Mayank Chachra and Ameet Nichani selling DJI’s products and both of them said that the Indian Army never approached them for buying a drone.
According to Mayank whose based in Delhi suggested that the drone was just a ‘toy’ and its specs is not suitable for military operations. Its total battery life is just 15 minutes and has a line-of-sight range of 200-300 metres.
Pakistan summoned the Indian envoy yesterday to Foreign Office claiming violation of its territory by an alleged Indian "spy" drone which was being used for aerial photography near the Line of Control (LoC).
The Indian Army as well as the Indian Air Force, however, denied that any of their drone has been shot down or crashed.
