US ASAT

The planned burnout speed of the ground-based interceptors is reported to be 7 to 8 km/s. If launched straight up, this interceptor could lift the kill vehicle to a height of roughly 6,000 kilometers. It could therefore reach satellites in low-earth orbit, which are typically at altitudes less than 1,200 km, but not satellites in geosynchronous (36,000 km) or semi-synchronous orbits (20,000 km).[5] If launched against satellites in low-earth orbit, the interceptor could use some of its speed to reach out laterally thousands of kilometers, allowing it to hit satellites on orbits that do not pass directly over the launch site. Thus, even interceptors at fixed ground sites in Alaska and California could reach a large fraction of satellites in low-earth orbit—especially those in orbits that pass over the United States.[6]

The rocket reached 10,000 km (6,250 miles) above Earth, the highest suborbital launch seen worldwide since 1976, according to Jonathan McDowell at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.

The DN-2 is said to be capable of hitting targets in high-earth orbit between 12,000 and 22,236 miles above earth. Many military, intelligence, and commercial satellites orbit at that altitude.

nuff to say :coffee:

Which idiot nation puts a spy satellite at a height of 10000 km? And the range of the ASAT can easily be increased by increasing propellant, US validated their warhead guidance and accuracy and moved on.
Their 'reasoning' works this way: If an American car have a 10 gal fuel tank and travels 200 miles, then all China have to do is build a car with 11 gal fuel tank to go a little bit further and voila, the Chinese car is technologically superior.

Figure out at which altitude GPS satellites are located and then think about why that might be important.

Chinese Anti-Satellite Test?

Chinese Anti-Satellite Test?

A Chinese space launch this week ostensibly for peaceful scientific research may actually have been a test of a new Chinese anti-satellite weapon, according to US press reports. China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported the May 13 launch of a high-altitude sounding rocket from southwestern China that was meant to investigate energy ions and magnetic fields in space. However, the mission was actually a test of the so called Dong Ning-2 missile that China could fire to attack a satellite, reported the Washington Free Beacon on May 14, citing US officials. The test reflects a significant advance in Chinese counterspace capabilities, claimed the Beacon. A Reuters report on Wednesday citing a US defense official made similar claims. Asked for comment, Pentagon spokeswoman Lt. Col Monica Matoush told the Daily Report on Wednesday: "We detected a launch on May 13 from within China. The launch appeared to be on a ballistic trajectory nearly to geosynchronous Earth orbit. We tracked several objects during the flight, but did not observe the insertion of any objects into orbit and no objects associated with this launch remain in space." China tested an ASAT weapon in 2007 that created thousands of pieces of debris on orbit. The Pentagon's newly issued 2013 annual report on Chinese military developments states that China is acquiring "a range of technologies" to improve its space and counterspace capabilities.

Keep giving us a reason to develop anti satellite weapons.

This operation has been highly criticized by China and Russia. China demanded more information about the mission on Thursday. Russia suspects that all the operation was just a cover to test anti-satellite technology under the US missile defense program. Russia says that this act can prompt the fears of a space weaponry race. The US denies that it was a reaction to an anti-satellite test carried out by China last year.
The operation launched forward hours after the space shuttle Atlantis landed, removing it as a safety issue for the military.

Aegis is only aimed at the LEO satellites, you can shoot down some LEO satellites, while China can shoot down the entire GPS system. :coffee:

We can pretty much shoot down any satellites no matter how high. Been done for decades. Recently if we can touch Mars we can touch whats in orbit.:woot: So in other words the Chinese Beidou is pretty much in reach.

Even our space probe has also almost touched Mars, but it is apple to orange compared to the GEO ASAT.

Just make a test to prove yourself instead of boasting without any substantiation. :coffee:

They can't because the US has never conducted an ASAT test outside of LEO.

That means the US can't do it.

Isn't this the same excuse they use for the DF-21D?

If it hasn't been demonstrated, it doesn't work.

We haven't conducted ASAT tests for many years until 2008. But if you don't think we can't do it. Go ahead and think that.

The Chinese sent a probe to Mars? Or you implying almost. Enlighten me on that. Indeed you need to test yourself.

I said almost the nearest distance to Mars.

The minimum distance from the Earth to Mars is about 54.6 million kilometers. The farthest apart they can be is about 401 million km. The average distance is about 225 million km. - See more at: What Is the Distance Between Earth and Mars? | Space.com

50 million km or 500 million km, it doesn't matter, because it doesn't equate to your capability in term of the GEO ASAT. :coffee:
