The SH1 self-propelled howitzer was developed by NORINCO for the export market. Development of this artillery system commenced in 2002. It was first revealed in 2007. Details of this artillery system were released at the same time as were details of the smaller SH2 122-mm truck-mounted howitzer. Pakistan acquired approximately 90 SH-1 truck-mounted howitzers. It may also enter service with the Chinese Army in the near future.

The SH1 is armed with a 155-mm / L52 howitzer. It is compatible with all standard 155-mm NATO ammunition, as well as ammunition developed by NORINCO. Claimed maximum range of fire is 53 km which was achieved with a rocket assisted V-LAP projectile using charge zone 10. In addition this artillery system is able to use indigenous precision guided munitions, like the Russian Krasnopol technology.

Ammunition box of the SH-1 artillery system houses 25 rounds of seven different types and their modular charges.

Before firing a large spade is lowered to the ground. It provides more stable firing platform.

The SH1 is fitted with a computerized fire control system, navigation, positioning and targeting systems. Vehicle receives target information from artillery command vehicle.

Secondary armament consists of a 12.7-mm machine gun, mounted on top of the roof.

Vehicle has a crew of five. An armored driving cab provides protection against small arms fire and artillery shell splinters.

The SH1 artillery system uses 6x6 truck chassis. Vehicle can be airlifted by most medium transport aircraft.

A complete SH-1 regiment comprises 24 truck-mounted howitzers, four battery command post vehicles, one battalion command post vehicle, one meteorological radar, four 6x6 wheeled reconnaissance vehicles and one artillery locating radar.

this is a beastly vehicle for long range land warfare. perfect for liberating southern tibet. too bad its only for export, i think it'll work well in our own military.

If PLA sees a requirement for such vehicle, they can acquire it also. As such vehicle would be very good and mobile in some terrains where tracked vehicles are not that much of a good or such vehicles can do the job also, then why need a tracked one.

Looking at out terrain, this vehicle can be the best choice as we will have a mobile artillery, shoot & scoot.

The good thing is that it doesn't need big crews. And i think if costumer demands they will build tracked version as well.

what means 'chinese trade-based'?

We have enough artillery system, and also have this SH1 and SH2.
but this is designed for outer buyers,It is compatible with all standard 155-mm NATO ammunition and Russian ammunition, as well as ammunition developed by NORINCO. Our military's don't need to compatible with NATO ammunition~~

This style is bettermented compatible with all standard 155-mm NATO ammunition, and PLA'S needn't this ability, and this should be bettermented according the buyer's demand, this means trade-based~

How many artiliry rounds it can fire ? and how fast can it change its position

Can it target tanks with out the middle crew on jeeps ? That is a big restriction of the jeep crew is taken out first who will do all the targeting ???

The SH1 is equipped with a computerised fire-control system, with a muzzle velocity sensor which feed the data directly to the fire-control computer. The artillery system is equipped with navigation, positioning, targeting, and communications systems, all of which adopt the modular design for easy maintenance and upgrade. The onboard communication system enables the artillery system to be connected into the C4ISR network of an artillery company or battalion for information sharing and automated command and control.
Generally speaking, SH1 system to enable it to ultra-long-range enemy fire first for their own troops and the vitality of the provision of effective support to China's long-range artillery systems in the field has made another important achievement
