What's new

Chinas young people can’t find jobs. Xi Jinping says to “Eat Bitterness.”

.
20% youth unemployment is too high.
Can any chinese members confirm this?
Probably it's another propaganda, at least in Beijing very few people go without a job, no one doesn't have a job on my wechat contact list, but they do change jobs a lot, 3 jobs within half a year is not uncommon among the young people.

.
"Chinese young people" , if you only survey fresh graduates who are in their "gap year", probably, in that case, I m not sure.

3 jobs in half a year, that's crazy job change....

. .
Young people love to try as many jobs as they can before they settle for one which they think suits them.
I guess it's still amazing that they can get accepted into 3 jobs in just half a year.
Usually in Vietnam, if you jump too much jobs, company will put you into negative mark because there's a high chance you will bail this job too.

.
Ironically, the more "bitterness" young people eat, the more bitter it becomes for them.

只要肯吃苦,就一辈子吃不完的苦.

If a company can squeeze 1 employee with 996 schedule (9AM to 9PM, 6 days a week) to do the normal workload of 2 employees, why would they hire more? This is directly contributing to unemployment and low birth rate.

Exactly as I said above. But other Chinese posters are like 'Nooo, you don't know China! There are many jobs out there in the factory, they are just spoiled! If they are willing to put down their ego and ignore the fact that they just went through 18 years of hypercompetitive education system, they can easily get a job in the factory!'.

It's a structural problem, asking youths to 'eat more bitterness' doesn't solve the fundamental issue of creating more good jobs. Telling them that they should take an underqualified job is just escaping the issue. If every country adopts such a mentality, there will no youth unemployment problem lol.

Structural unemployment? Just go take those underqualified jobs.
Soaring housing prices? Just buy a smaller apartment.
Food too expensive? Just substitute meat with vegetables.
Healthcare too expensive? Just visit the doctor less.

Lol,it's easier to say that as a Singaporean, but if you are in the shoes to provide "quality jobs" for a billion people especially now almost every young person can finish college will be a quite different story. 站着说话不腰疼

That's like saying it's easier to provide quality jobs in Tuvalu than in the US because Tuvalu has a smaller population, or that unemployment will go away if the world's population is reduced by 90% lmao. It's a structural imbalance issue. More population = more demand.

China's development in the past 30 years if happened to a small city state like Singapore, it's at best can be termed as mediocre, but when it happened to one fifth of the humanity, it's very much being regarded as a miracle by everyone in the world. Do you why the difference? Managing China is worlds apart from just manaing Singapore or Shenzhen.

If the world's population is reduced by 95%, will it be easier to find a job?

I guess so, actually the Black Plague created ample job opportunities after it's over in Europen, it's an unintended result, doesn't mean I want to see it happen.

.
1. General unemployment can not reflect young people unemployment. China's general unemployment is 4%
2. The data of US unempolyment rate is not reliable. Only those who want to work and are looking for job are counted.

There is a difference in definition for unemployment between the two countries, as US define unemployment as those who are unemployed but are actively looking for job, while China defines employment as all eligible labor without a job.

.
Who told you that? Chinese young are actually pretty content with their lives, actually this is indeed a problem, they are less motivated by wealth than the generation before them, You Indian young are so happy with Indian government?
Emperor Xi made that statement for chinese youth to be ok with unhappiness and hard times, it is all over the news, is that news banned in China or you think he is lying?

lOl, your mind is so messed up, if Xi made this statement when it should be banned in China? it's a very old slogan dating back from Mao's time, Xi quoted it to encourage the young to learn from their predecessors to preserve the traditional hard working culture and ethic.
