Not likely to happen. China cannot offer anyone significant that they are being threatened and that ONLY China can offer an alliance beneficial to both sides. If anything, since the Cold War is over, it looks like China being militarily aggressive in Asia, is putting out the image that it is China who is the threatening one. So if China is perceived as being a negative factor when compared against the US, forget about those foreign bases.

Does not have to be. The PLA have always been the more assertive military than the US military when it comes to political affairs. A 'praetorian state' will come to be when the military's assertiveness, aggressiveness, and political influence begins to BALANCE the civilian side. Not subordinate and subservient, but BALANCE. Then if there is a crossover, we will have a military dictatorship.

Agreed, or any other countries for that matter, but it's hard to keep the hawks mouth shut, when the civilian leadership is deemed as weak and ineffective. It's no secret that the SCS is the only flashpoint China have any vested interest in, and diplomacy will prevail in the end without meddling from a third party.

Those bases are the effects of POLITICALLY motivated alliances. When I spoke of military aggressiveness, I meant that the military is being aggressive at the home front.

many countries now depend more on china economically(trade, investment, finance) than the US in asia, africa and latin america.
china is building up relationships on a global basis.
its only a matter of time before we ask other countries to militarily cooperate and slowly build military bases.
