What's new

China's 2015 diplomacy focuses on "Belt and Road"

it is a strategy plan, in fact, China has a close connection with ES Asia countries, does not need a special emphasizing ES Asia countries on this marine road. the marine road is to connect countries in west, middle Asia, east africa , and middleeast.
we can not put all the things on a road, the plan of " one belt and one road‘ is to expand economic connection with the countries which have great potentials.

as for Vietnam, just a neighbour of China, we can do any business without any geographical barriers, then no need to emphasize to esatablish a road between us. a railway system in both side or small cargo ship along the coastline among the two countries can do the job well.

.
It's up to Vietnam's decision. Thailand is the geo-center of ASEAN, all railway will be connected in Thailand, then extend to Singapore.

The way can go through Laos or Myanmar, Vietnam is the marginal area, you know.
do what you like, while we ours. we have concluded FTAs agreements with south korea, russia customs union, and european union. just some minor issues to be solved then TPP will be next the pact we will sign. we can do with or without china.

You are weird, can you represent all Vietnamese? This afternoon I just chat with an Vietnamese doing business in China. It's not true Vietnam can do with or without China. Your content is full of passion, but reality isn't easy. FTA or TPP agreement means decrease of tariff ratios, some tariff even decrease to 0. South Korean protest one whole year for the agreement of FTA with America due to beef, you know. Bilateral relation is not that simple as you thought.

Oh oh oh, don't be pissy about not been invited to the party, we can still work things out.
Mere trade agreements are not the same as what China is building here, not only China is revitalizing the road that almost vacuumed Europe's wealth, but this time also giving the countries along the way easier access to the world's largest market. With the economical, large capacity land and sea transportion ready, we know it will be where you have roads, where you have wealth.

You are right bro.

While trade with the West (US, W Europe, E Asia) is still dominant on China's current diplomatic/trade agenda, the "One Belt and One Road" grand initiative is based on long-term vision on:

A) Eurasian Integration, with Beijing-Moscow as core axis, SCO as a central working platform (on economic as well as security) which currently includes the central Asian "stans" and will include Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran. Other economies on the Eurasian bloc will be tied/integrated to SCO through the Economic Belt concept.

B) Global South Vision. Since 2012 China has surpassed US as the biggest trading nation, 124 countries have China as top trading partner compared to 76 having US in this capacity. Moreover, since 2012 China's trade volume with developing countries has exceeded that with developed world. There are 6 sections in the Global South, 5 of them would be integrated with "One Belt and One Road" grand initiative:

1) ASEAN: Largest trading partner among the 6 sections. As posters mentioned here, the Kunming-Singapore Rail Link, 10 + 1 ACFTA, Mekong Basin Development Program
2) Arab World: China's key market and energy life-line.
3) Sub-Saharan Africa: Booming market and energy/materials life-line. Sub-regional plans e.g. Agriculture, oil exploration/refinery, mining, rail/infrastructure, transfer of manufacturing capacity (产能转移) from China
4) Central and Eastern Europe: Future 16 + 1 co-operation similar to ASEAN, alternative bridge to Euro-zone. Sub-regional plans e.g. Central European HSR, ports on Mediterranean Sea.
5) South Asia: Booming market and bridge to Arab World and Sub-Saharan Africa. Sub-regional plans e.g. Pak-CN economic corridor, IOR ports and infrastructure investment, transfer of tech/manufacturing.

Except Latin America, all above benefit from "One Belt and One Road" grand initiative.

I think it's very important to invest around India, drag it into arms race and investment race . Other countries in South Asia should not be bullied by their giant neighbor and let the maritime Silk Road be greatly beneficial them.

Lol, who is the giant neighbor? You must have confidence it's not China.
But you should know, whatever China express friendly gesture to neighbors, neighbors still would like to play balance games. Business is business, that's enough.

TPP is great for Vietnam. I hope it get implemented sooner rather than later.

I don't mean China, I don't think China has ever bullied Nepal Bhutan or Sri Lanka

Yes, I think we did that in the 90s. India focused a lot of its military to the NE, pending a Chinese invasion wasting a lot of resources while we focus on economy and grew 10% for three decades.

Let's continue that since they really wanna catch up with China even they have done nothing worth mentioning.

.
so your proposed maritime silk road will bypass vietnam and most of other SE asian countries, except singapore. or do I miss something?

I don´t read any plans to upgrade the poor railway connection between china to vietnam.
China doesn't view Vietnam an important trade partner. As far as railway is concern, nothing is free you have to pay for it one way or another. But since Vietnam is always countering China on the international stage, it make sense to bypass Vietnam.

Historically Vietnam was never part of the silk road.

it always turn out bad for midget to fight El Gigante in reality.

Yes i agree.

You drag India in arms race and we already have G4 partnership with USA-India-Australia-Japan to contain China and i think Vietnam will be happy to join.

You go with your plan of containment of India and we go with ours and we also need to increase our help to Vitnam/Philp/Malaysia from bullying China in SCS.

Take it easy. This is American trap. All you said are the same with American propaganda.

American has military base in Indian ocean 500 miles south away India coastline, and American deploy B2 bomber there.

You know more about the situation than me. It's nonsense to make excuse. Just develop your navy. Just do it( sorry I use the adv.)

We know they have a base there but they are not making any plan to contain India while you are so they will be dealt later, I am not USA fan boy.

Also what make you think we are not developing our navy ,you should know the ground situation better than some trolls.
