China vs the world: Here's a look at Naval power in the Pacific in numbers

Not really. Both countries' long term interests are very aligned. I think your understanding of the situation is very superficial.

Russia is White, Christian and European state. Russians party in French Rivera and Swiss Alps. They shop in London and New York

I am not sure where China comes in. Other than a nice bargaining chip with the West

Nothing stops China from pulling a South China Sea on Siberia. Russians are well aware of it

Doesn’t matter. What matters is who is threatening your interests and who you can rely on. Anyways China is by far the bigger economy so why would Russia antagonize an economy that gives it access to a huge market with a friendly government as opposed to the west which is constantly interfering in Russia’s interests? China and Japan are similar racially and culturally yet they are rivals. Pakistan and Bangladesh split up bitterly. Your understanding of geopolitics is incredibly shallow and naive.

what stops US Navy from moving all its assets from Atlantic to pacific in case of a war? Atlantic fleet was supposed to fight the USSR navy and support NATO. In case of a war, USA will shift whole of its Navy to fight the oriental foe

China vs the world: Here's a look at Naval power in the Pacific in numbers
AFPLast Updated: Sep 17, 2021, 12:10 PM IST

Australia's decision to acquire nuclear-powered submarines under a newly announced alliance with the United States and Britain has highlighted regional concerns over China's growing maritime might in the Pacific.

Justifying ditching an earlier deal with France for conventional submarines, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said it was "not a change of mind, it's a change of need".

AFP takes a look at how the military balance of power in the region stands.

Total battle force
In terms of number of ships -- surface vessels and submarines -- China has the largest navy in the world, according to the US Department of Defense.

At the end of 2020, the size of China's navy -- or its "battle force ships" -- was approximately 360, compared to the United States' 297, according to the US Office of Naval Intelligence.

It also projected that China's navy will increase to 400 ships in 2025 and 425 in 2030.

Rate of expansion
Five of the United States' 11 aircraft carriers are based in the Pacific.

But China has already started construction on its third aircraft carrier and is also building more destroyers.

According to defence experts Janes, between 2015 and 2019, China built 132 vessels -- compared to the United States' 68, India's 48, Japan's 29 and Australia's nine.

France built 17 new ships in the same timeframe, while Britain manufactured four, two of which were aircraft carriers.

Or to put it another way, in four years, China launched the equivalent of the French naval fleet, according to Admiral Pierre Vandier, Chief of Staff of the French Navy.

He said the "historic Chinese naval effort" represented 55 percent of China's defence budget.

Submarines
Beijing has six nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs) that are armed with nuclear missiles, as well as around 40 attack submarines, of which six are nuclear-powered, according to Military Balance, the International Institute for Strategic Studies' annual assessment of military capacity around the world.

For its part, Washington has 21 attack submarines and eight SSBNs in the Pacific, mainly operating out of Pearl Harbor, according to the US Navy.

Australia has six Swedish-designed diesel-electric Collins-class submarines that have been in service since the mid-1990s.

It had been due to refresh its fleet with 12 French-made state-of-the-art attack vessels; to Paris' fury, that multibillion-dollar deal has now been scrapped in favour of building a nuclear-powered fleet with US help.

As well as Australia, other regional stakeholders have beefed up their naval capabilities, most notably in terms of acquiring their own underwater vessels.

Vietnam has six Russian-designed submarines; Malaysia has two submarines; Indonesia has ordered six from South Korea; and the Philippines is thinking of building its own fleet as well.

What does Chinese fanboy smoke about? There is no way China can beat the world. This is reality, not a OP Chinese protagonist in Chinese lame manhua who can beat and kill people whatever they want. There is a limit of what China can do.

Now look at the narrative of this article. China against the world. This article is surely a mind-game, a suggestion, made by Washington propagandists to gather support from Chinese neighbor countries. It is a psychological war that aim to discredit China. To give suggestion to people from other countries that China is lost. Everyone gather and join the US to fight them. They aim to surround China. And guess what, if China is being surrounded, it is game over for China. Even if you think that you're superior, powerful, unbeatable, etc.

Why? Learn Wei Qi! How Iraq lost to Pentagon? it is simple, they were surrounded by the American forces. You should learn about 1st Iraqi War, and you would know that Americans had a lot of airbase around Iraq. Even in Iran. It was also the same as Taliban in Afghanistan 2001. They were surrounded by the American. That's the amazing logic behind Wei Qi as a game. A product of Chinese ancestor. Being surrounded, mean death.

China vs American geopolitical battle is like playing Wei Qi. But with Americans have some pawns already on the board. To survive, China need to think like a Wei Qi player. to escape from being surrounded, and try to surround the American. And how to do that? Gather friends and allies. Boost China's soft power to other countries, to make their opinion positive about china. Find US weakness and exploit it. Every countries around China and United States are the dot at the board. It is up to Chinese and American player to put their pawns into those dots. To avoid being surrounded, China should put their pawns into "escape dot". Do something to get support from those countries, and prevent US pawns from gather the power from those strategic dot. At the same time, China need to put their pawns to surround the United States, to surround US and make them lose. And what is the result? Nobody know. The game is still far from over. The question is, how you, Chinese netizens can become an effective pawn that put on a dot.

So I suggest that all Chinese Netizens here to start learn on how to play Wei Qi, instead of modern lame game like Mobile Legend. Because Wei Qi is the best, logical war game that give us the idea about how China vs American goes, and give us the understanding the importance of Allies and not being surrounded by the enemy. Forget Heart of Iron, forget Battlefield V. Just learn Wei-Qi.

No one stop them in doing so. But with current situation, nobody are certain about whos the winner. The geopolitical chess game is still on going.

China has no territorial claims on Russia too. China-russian relationship is in best condition now. we need each other to watch our backs. USA can try to break the friendship between china and russia, but you will fail no matter how smart you think yourselves are.

It does not change the fact
Nothing stops China from pulling a South China Sea on Siberia. Russians are well aware of it. Even with all the help from USSR you backstabbed them in 1969

The fact is, the US has a massive globe-trotting, well established and mature naval force. No other country comes anywhere that.

China maybe building more and faster, but it's still behind the US Navy. The US doesn't need to build more and faster because they already have more than enough.

Look at it this way, the US is roaming around in Chinese water as and when they like. Can China do the same in American waters? No.

War hasn't broken out yet, has it? I suppose that's the case now, let alone China can (and has done already), perhaps even bro you & I can roam around in American waters, can you? The only price you need to pay is gas, enjoy some freedom of navigation.

US navy plan to go to up to 512 ships
Seems like USSR used to have plan like this, but of course it never came to reality we all know why. But even at current scale US has to break debt ceiling every now and then like there's no tomorrow, wonder what happens if that plan is pursued?

An extra $25-40 Billion a year won’t break the bank for the US; still cheaper then the WOT wars, so the increased spending has been priced in. The US has also convinced the Japanese to nearly double their defense spending. It won’t be a stretch to assume Taiwan will be allowed to buy more US equipment. The US will benefit, regional countries will be burdened with the extra defense spending, so regional economic growth will slow down.
