China vows to step up crackdowns on firearms smuggling - People's Daily Online March 31, 2011

A meeting on March 30 by Public Security Ministry to launch an eight-month special rectification action, Chinese authority has pledged crackdowns on border smuggling of firearms and ammunition.

The deputy minister, Huang Ming, has requested to list this eight-month action as the top measure to step up the efforts against crimes involving guns and explosive substance.

Huang pointed out that the effective crackdowns are of significance to national security, social stability and public safety, based on the past experience that tight control did curb effectively the firearm crimes.

But those crackdown actions also prompt the illegal force to flee to the fragile borders for smuggled weapons, which another crackdown project are in urgent need.
