China on Tuesday addressed the UNSC session on the Russia-Ukraine war, calling upon the United States, NATO, and the European Union (EU) to engage in a comprehensive dialogue with Russia. Reacting to the disturbing images from Bucha, China urged the council to verify and establish facts, and not resort to any 'unfounded conclusions'. The country also voiced its concern over the slew of sanctions against Moscow calling it a 'weaponisation of the world economy'.

"Dialogue and negotiations are the only way to peace. Russia and Ukraine have held multiple negotiations. We call for fair conditions of negotiations and for all parties to abide by international humanitarian law. Other countries should not add fuel to the fire. The humanitarian need of Ukraine is enormous. China has and will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine," said Zhang Jun, Permanent Representative of China to the UN.

"Civilians should be spared from any kind of violence during war. Bucha images are disturbing. Parties should excercise restraint and the incident and its causes must be verified and established. The actual conclusion should be drawn and one should not resort to unfounded conclusions. Sanctions won't solve the crisis. They will bring complexity in the crisis. Indiscriminate sanctions are tantamount to politicising and weaponising the world economy," he added.
China also asserted that small countries should not be pushed in between the warring countries, and compared the crisis to the Cold War era. "More than 30 years after the cold war such a geo political tragedy in Europe deserves our profound reflection. Small and medium countries should not be pushed between two big countries. The foreign policy of every country should be independent. We call upon the US, UN, and NATO to engage in comprehensive dialogues with Russia," he said.

Russia denies Bucha killings in UNSC

On Sunday, Ukrainian troops recaptured the Kyiv suburbs of Bucha and Irpin, revealing the macabre of death and destruction in the city. As per the Ukrainian Defence Ministry, 410 bodies of slain Ukrainians have been found in Bucha, Irpin, and other towns and villages, however, the exact number is expected to be much higher".

On Tuesday, Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations seemingly took a dig at Ukraine in the UNSC by saying that the 'corpses lying on the streets did not exist until Russian armed forces arrived'.

Vasily Nebenzya remarked, "Corpses lying on the streets of Bucha did not exist until Russian troops arrived. But, of course, the whole world knows that the dead bodies of civilians on the streets of peaceful towns appear just after the arrival of the Russian army. That's it, not the other way round."

.
Why the reluctance by the Western powers to allow independent investigation into Bucha by as requestsd by Russia in the UNSC if they are really so concerned about human rights violation by Russia?

An independent investigation team which include forensic scientists, etc. will be able to give us some idea what really happened in Bucha?

.
It is encouraging to hear Western Superpowers are showing their concern about warcrimes committed due to bodies of dead civilian in Bucha allegedly by departing Russian force by Ukraine
while
completely discarding and ignoring alleged biological warfare weapons being developed in biolabs discovered in Ukraine by Russia.

Tell me which will have wider consequences? :coffee:

The double standards are so apparent that many Asians like us simply don't care.

Don't send annoying under and secretaries to state to woe and threaten us. We don't care.

Send lots of money instead e.g. hundred and hundred of billions just like you did during elections.

Forget about sending weapons, the cost of replacement and spareparts will killed us later.

Time for dialogue is over. We start dialogue when russia is out of Ukraine.

China calls for probe into Bucha killings, assigns no blame

By Associated Press
Today at 6:20 a.m. EDT

BEIJING — China on Wednesday said images of civilian deaths in the Ukrainian town of Bucha are “deeply disturbing” but that no blame should be apportioned until all facts are known.

Emerging evidence of what appeared to be widespread civilian massacres in the wake of Russian withdrawals from the Kyiv areas may complicate Beijing’s attempts to guide public opinion over the conflict, in which China has refused to criticize Moscow.

China supports all initiatives and measures “conducive to alleviating the humanitarian crisis” in the country, and is “ready to continue to work together with the international community to prevent any harm to civilians,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian told reporters at a daily briefing.

“The truth and the cause of the incident must be verified,” Zhao said. “All parties should exercise restraint and avoid unfounded accusations before a conclusion of the investigation is drawn.”

Zhao’s remarks echo those of China’s ambassador to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, who earlier called for an investigation, also describing the reports and images of civilian deaths in Bucha as “deeply disturbing.”

“The relevant circumstances and specific causes of the incident should be verified and established,” Zhang said in remarks to the Security Council on Tuesday, adding that, “before the full picture is clear, all sides should exercise restraint and avoid unfounded accusations.”

China has called for talks while refusing to criticize Russia. It opposes economic sanctions on Moscow and blames Washington and NATO for provoking the war and fueling the conflict by sending arms to Ukraine.

The entirely ruling Communist Party-controlled media have largely stuck to a pro-Moscow narrative, including repeating Russian disinformation and unfounded conspiracy theories about issues such as alleged American-Ukrainian bioweapons production.

Zhao repeated China’s objections to sanctions, while accusing the U.S. of having manipulated the situation to “profit from the chaos and make a lot of money.”

“History and reality have proven that sanctions do not bring peace and security, but only bring lose-lose or multiple losses, adding to the already difficult world economy and impacting the existing world economic system,” Zhao said.

The hashtag “China expresses Bucha death incident must be thoroughly investigated” was a trending topic on Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter, with nearly 30 million views and more than 500 discussions by afternoon Wednesday

Despite the pro-Russian stance of authorities who regularly censor postings, opinions were divided between support for Moscow, demands Russia be held accountable, accusations of untrustworthiness against the West and Ukraine, and calls for an impartial investigation.

“This is merely a play acted out by the Americans and Ukrainian Nazis in an attempt to divert public opinion, but people of the world with eyes and hearts won’t ignore the facts of the U.S. and Ukraine researching bio weapons,” read one posting signed “Understands the Cold War Better Than America.”

The Russian Embassy in Beijing also made use of the platform to reject the accusations, while its Ukrainian counterpart drew attention to “Russian war crimes against civilians in Irpin,” another town where atrocities allegedly occurred.

Prior to the Feb. 24 war, China had dismissed talk of a Russian invasion as “fake news” and U.S. fearmongering. Since then, it has claimed to be holding to an independent, and often contradictory, stance, asserting the sanctity of borders and national sovereignty while refusing to condemn Russian aggression or even use the words “war” and “invasion,” in apparent deference to Moscow.

The Global Times, a nationalistic tabloid published by the Communist Party mouthpiece People’s Daily, sought to balance the competing messages with an editorial Wednesday headlined “’Bucha Incident’ not to be used as pretext for inflaming situation.”

“As long as Russia and Ukraine cannot achieve a cease-fire, humanitarian tragedies will not end,” the paper said.

“However, it is regrettable that after the exposure of the ‘Bucha incident,’ the U.S., the initiator of the Ukraine crisis, has not shown any signs of urging peace and promoting talks, but is ready to exacerbate the Russia-Ukraine tensions and create obstacles to the peace talks between the two sides,” it said.

The Ukrainian FM just call and spoke to China FM Wang Ni.

He praises China and spoke about China 5 principles.

Wang Ni in response politely told Ukrainian FM that Ukraine should have enough WISDOM to make its choice independently (meaning to break free of the US and Western powers) to determine their own future and for lasting peace, lasting security and prosperity for her people.

China position of neutrality remains firm.

China appear to have an insatiable appetite for all the commodities from Russia rejected by the West thru' their sanctions e.g. palladium, thermal coal, neon, nickel, gas, etc.

. . .
The people of Bucha are traitors.

They welcome Russia and live side by side peacefully, they even receive aid from Russia.

Unacceptable!

That's why Ukraine Army massacred them.

And then accuse Russia of it.

For Ukraine it's actually a great act, throwing one stone, they hit two targets.

One is the Bucha traitors and two is Russia image for violating human rights.

You can count it as three as well, if you include that Ukraine is now being recognized as a saint.

That is what we need independent and professional investigators includong forensic experts.

These accusers allegedly from Bucha may not be from there.

Zalensky cannot be trusted based onthe negotiatlon in Istanbul.

After forwatding his concessions, he withdraw them and used it in his propaganda.

How can one hope for a peaceful settlement with a leader like him. Russia Lavrov angrily denounced him for his latest trickery.

Is this because calling out Russia would put China in an awkward position because of its own genocides & massacres?
